any one ever put 351 or 5.0 EFI in a 78 bronco
I thinking of putting a 5.0 or 351 along with the tranny and transfercase out of a 90s ford bronco or f150 donar truck in my 78 bronco hopfully with a 5 speed. Just to make it a better every day driver for the wife. any tips or pointers would be awsom.will it all bolt in or will there need to be alot of modification. Right now its a 351M with headers and an edelbrock carb and manifold with the 4 speed just horable on fuel

Ditch the 351 and put a 460 in it and keep the 4 speed since its granny low and bulletproof unless you want to do a zf5 swap like i plan to do on my 79.
The 351m are ok. The smog equipment and timing makes it retarded.
If u do keep the 351m, get better heads (clevelands ive heard), straight up timing, free flow exhaust with headers and a good cam and carb.
Never put a 302 in these 78-79 year models. Do a 300 instead but truthfully do a 460 swap. Simple bolt on usually. You might have to change flywheels though.

Ya ive thought of doing a 460 but with fuel being $1.35\lt and liveing 50km out of town its just really not feasable to drive even in the bush for day hunting it is like $40 in fuel lol. Just wondering why is a 5.0 no good they seem ok in a f150 couldnt be that much diferance in weght
Torque is much needed to move a heavy vehicle which the 5.0 dont have.
5.0 in trucks today r lighter than our 70s broncos

As Manfred kind of mentioned, these 78-9's are HEAVY and a 5.0 just can't push it like it needs. The wear on the small engine would be twices that of a 351 either Modified or Windsor. If you want super good mpg but don't need to use it for much off roading or towing, find yourself a clean 300I6 and a ZF5 5speed. The 300 has butt tons of torque, and the ZF has a granny low for first (good in snow, mud w/e you need) plus a 5th "overdrive" gear for freeway stuff. A 460, no matter which way you slice it, will be bad on mpg such as a 351M would be. A windsor, might be better as another member stated in another thread, these are THE heaviest styles of bronco's Ford made. Fuel mileage won't be great either way you go but do the right mods and it can be better than mine .
