3 spd Shift Column..to keep/not keep??

Hi guys,

Just curious of some opinions of different folks who've done this thing a time or two. I am getting into my old 52 Ford, and with having an automatic transmission and a lokar floor shifter, I am considering removing the shifting column from my steering tube. I've seen several trucks where the shifting lever only has been removed, then some where the whole shift column has been removed.

What's your take on this? I don't have any plans of going back to a column shift so I'm thinking of just removing it.

I'm just looking for opinions really, I don't suppose it's much of a technical issue.

Thanks again.

Find somebody who is scrapping out a stock floor shift steering column and swap out the whole tube. Otherwise you end up with the top of the shifter still there. Also need to make a plate to cover the hole in the floorboard, and replace the rubber collar that seals to the floormat. What did you do with the clutch pedal?

Right now I have the clutch pedal resting on the frame below the cab(the truck is still far from driving) but I plan on probably securing it to the frame somehow, or I toyed with the idea of bringing the clutch pedal up and securing it somehow to keep the "standard shift" look.

This is what I will be doing with my F4. The pedal will be retained in position by an under cab spring. I will attempt to use the original but modified crash box handle and **** with the Lokar shifter. Shifter DD Wed this week.

Mho

Use the stock column to shift you automatic. Spend the Locar $ on something else.

I removed the shifter tube and handle....then I put a "dummy" tube back on the upper column and ran my turn signal wires inside it to hide them.
The dummy tube is just some pvc pipe painted black and glued in place...

Very clever! You could run lots of wires thru that.

Tinman52, that's a great idea!

JonF, do you have any pics of a shifting column doing that? I had actually seen that done and have given some thought of doing that as well! Great ideas so far guys! Thanks again!
