1.7 rockers

There are no real down sides to this swap. I owned a '93 Cobra Mustang that came stock with them. I also bought a used set that I installed on a '92 LX. The car had a bit more power through out the rev range with a bit better pull as the engine went past 4500 rpms. It won't change the speed that the engine makes peak power, it will just make more of it. Also the roller rockers free up a bit of power since there is less friction due to the roller bearings. The number there is quite small but every bit helps.
On a 5.8L with a stock cam you need every bit of help to make power. A cam change would be the best change but baring that swapping in a set of 1.7 RR's is easier and you will fell the improvement.
Adding headers should also be considered!

The 1.7 rocker kits should come with their own pedestals. If you order a used set, you should make sure that they come with the pedestals and bolts.
They will give your valves about 6.25% increase in lift over the entire profile. It's a difference that's small enough that even the old speed-density EEC computers can compensate for. So the power increase will be slight. I installed that on my 87 Mustang GT a couple years ago, and asked this forum about the lifter ticking that started afterward. The ticking eventually went away.

get a name brand roller rocker.. the ones on EBAY that are 50 bucks are garbage Pro Comps.. they come apart quickly...
1.7's youll get more total lift from your camshaft which will help the engine breath so opens up 5-20 hp all across the power band..
you'll have to do some work to the baffles in the valve covers to clear em though..
