1.7 rockers

I was wondering what the gains are for the 1996 5.8 with the rockers. is it more low end or all around and would this be good for stock intake and 2.25 true dual exhaust with stock manifolds(for now) and headers in the future?

There are no real down sides to this swap. I owned a '93 Cobra Mustang that came stock with them. I also bought a used set that I installed on a '92 LX. The car had a bit more power through out the rev range with a bit better pull as the engine went past 4500 rpms. It won't change the speed that the engine makes peak power, it will just make more of it. Also the roller rockers free up a bit of power since there is less friction due to the roller bearings. The number there is quite small but every bit helps.

On a 5.8L with a stock cam you need every bit of help to make power. A cam change would be the best change but baring that swapping in a set of 1.7 RR's is easier and you will fell the improvement.
Adding headers should also be considered!

The 1.7 rocker kits should come with their own pedestals. If you order a used set, you should make sure that they come with the pedestals and bolts.

They will give your valves about 6.25% increase in lift over the entire profile. It's a difference that's small enough that even the old speed-density EEC computers can compensate for. So the power increase will be slight. I installed that on my 87 Mustang GT a couple years ago, and asked this forum about the lifter ticking that started afterward. The ticking eventually went away.

When I bought my used set it came complete. You just remove the stock ones and bolt on the rollers. Done! If you go to some of the Mustang forums you may find them for sale quite often. I pain only $100 for my used set.

I bought a used set and on close inspection found that several pedestals were cracked, and of slightly different heights. I was able to order a new set of pedestals for less than $20 from a local parts store though.

No, the pedestals use bolts to fasten them to the heads. Again, the complete kit should also include bolts. I don't think the stock bolts will work with roller rockers.

What kind of bump are these good for? Trying to figure out if I should get a set for my 98 exploder 5.0 that is going in my boat.

Stock the motor is rated at 215hp & 288 ft lbs tq.

There are some sets on ebay listed around $50.

get a name brand roller rocker.. the ones on EBAY that are 50 bucks are garbage Pro Comps.. they come apart quickly...

1.7's youll get more total lift from your camshaft which will help the engine breath so opens up 5-20 hp all across the power band..

you'll have to do some work to the baffles in the valve covers to clear em though..
