Looking for Carb Replace/ Rebuild Kit
I picked up a 1961 F-250 late July and drove her 2,000 miles home over the Rockies and across the plains in 95 F heat. All went reasonably well given any number of getting to know you surprises. I was doing 10 - 15 mpg at about 60 mph. Idle could get rough and fall out after hours of hot running. Couple mornings it was hard to start after a day's work. So I am suspecting a leaky manifold gasket and the carb could use replace/ rebuild. This is the 223 cu 6 cyl with a 1bc carburetor. The only markings I can find on the carburetor are: 12 R 1958.
So can anyone help with the following questions:
So can anyone help with the following questions:
- What is the carburetor on the F-250?
- What replacement carburetors can installed (and where can I find those)?
- Where can I get a rebuild kit for the existing carburetor?

Hey Matt, Tough to tell from the picture. That air filter is definitely not stock. Call The Carburetor Shop ((573) 392-7378). I did not try Green Sales (800 543 4959) per Number Dummy but no doubt they will get you the rebuild too. FYI, The Carburetor Shop did not have a replace, just the rebuild kit.

i like the 223, my 63 merc longbed has one and after i got it home and tuned up i had to flush the fuel tank and replace the steel supply lines to the carb. i went to my local parts store and they hooked me up with a reman carb. i keep abot 80 to 85 kph(50-55mph) and get 23 to24 mpg. these little sixers have a nice sound and rythym at that speed (should check with a tach one day ).
the carb i put on was an autoline reman, i'll have to find the bill to get a part number, but these things are available and reasonably priced
