spare tire options?

I need to get the spare tire out of the bed of my truck. LMC seems to think there is a difference between a rear mounted gas tank and the one I have in front of the axle.

My truck has a 8' bed, and a single gas tank in front of the rear axle. Am I missing something that is different than what they list in LMC? Or am I overthinking this?

Has anyone converted to a cable type hoist to raise and lower their spares?

Thank you.

Well, the spare tire does mount underneath the rear tank. If you do not have a rear tank something might be different back there for the mount.

I have never done a modification to this mounting system, but I have definitely thought about it. There are a lot of foreign and later model Ford trucks with a cable system to hold the spare up. The system we have now is terrible. All the fasteners rust and freeze up and the tire/wheel is awfully heavy to try and get back up in there to put it back. I do like their little jacks that Ford used on these trucks, but you also have to soak them in oil sometimes to get them working again.
