Do most people set 460 EFI base timing to 12 Degrees?

Ok, so the 5.0L EFI Fox Body Mustang folks bump up their base timing from the 10 BTDC set at the factory for 87 octane, to 14 to 16 degress BTDC for increased performance.....do 460 EFI guys bump up their timing from the factory 10 BTDC to 12 to 12.5 degrees BTDC ? The Four Wheeler Magazine article did this in their write up....http://performanceunlimited.com/proj...ine_series.pdf

Anyone here have....
Results?
Was it Noticable?
Drivability?
Mileage? (although I don't care, that's not why I bought a 460!)
Detonation? (I'm happy to pay for 91 octane)
Comments?

Thanks,
Terry

I bumped mine to 12* along with a good tuneup. I think it helps a little. It's really hard to quantify small increases, but I've done a few other things from the article you cited. Such as exhaust, air silencer removal, synthetic fluids throughout. I have a 5 speed and I think all together it runs a little stronger. I get about 12 mpg on the highway. The timing bump was a recent change when I swapped in a new distributor. I'm not sure yet if mileage is better, it will take a while to be sure. But I'm pretty certain it hasn't hurt the mileage at all

About a week ago i bumped my 460s timing from 8* (where it was when I bought it) to 14*. I got a little pinging at 16* so I backed down to 12*, no pinging on 87 octane. I can imagine that it feels a little less restrained now, but I can't swear it's a real difference. I haven't driven it enough after the change to check the mileage.

After doing that a few people told me that I couldn't get the engine to knock because the knock sensor would tell the computer to pull the timing back down. I'm not sure if they were right or wrong, but I did get a little knock under heavy acceleration at 16*, so either there's no (wirking) knock sensor on my truck or else it doesn't completely eliminate the knock. Regardless, it doesn't knock now at 14*, it's running well and we'll see about the mileage.
