96 vs 97 F250 PSD

I see a ton of 1997 F250 PSDs for sale and they go pretty quick if their priced right. I missed several of them by a day because I was traveling for work.

Q1:
I just bought a 96 F250 and was wondering if there were any major differences between this and the covetted 1997 model. They seem pretty much the same to me.

Q2:
167K miles for 7800 ... crew cab everything in good condition - not immaculate, it is a work truck. Took it to mechanic ... good engine good transmission --- did I get a good deal?

Nothing worthwhile to note.

Later 97 models had forged rods instead of cast though.

Pretty good price to me. I paid 7500 for a CC 350 with 212k.

How do I find transmission specification number?

Thanks for the feedback ... so I haven't seen any real differences between the 96 and 97

I was order some parts online and wanted to order stuff for transmission service - filter fluid, and pan gasket ... the online chat assistant asked me for the specification number -- said it should be C6 or E40D or something else ... how can I find that out ... can't seem to locate it in the owner's manuel.

E4OD trans is in it. There is no difference in the 96-97 models. Maybe the ebp sensor location, but that's about it.

CCLB (F350) or CCSB (F250)? Makes a huge difference wrt. value.

What was it I was thinking they changed then in late 97????

Maybe it was the block change they made in late 97.

Sorry for the bad info guys.

I know something was changed in the late 97 motors.

more detail on truck

You're right -- it's a shortie (How did you know??) ... so the full details - 1996 F250, crew cab, short bed, 2WD, 167K miles, has an after market exhaust, never chipped - paid $7800

Going to give it a good cleaning today. Planning on adding running lights and step bars. After I clean the upholstery and carpets I may go with a neoprene cover.

So, chipping - seems to be strong opinions - what are the pros and cons? Any other suggestions for engine modifications?

6637 intake and see if the down pipe was changed and not just a cat back system.

CC F250s were short-bed. CC F350s were long-bed.
A properly programmed chip, with intake and exhaust and the right gauges, will wake up the truck safely. Injectors and other mods will make more use of the chip settings. Best thing is to talk to the chip programmer about what _you_ intend to get out of the truck in what driving situations.

Got it

Thanks for the tips and info.

Sounds like chipping will be Phase II ... Really just looking for better gas mileage maybe acceleration. I'm not towing and would like only do some light towing.
