I was talking to this guy on the phone who has some ford parts for sale and he didn't really have anything I needed, but asked if he had any high pinion dana 60 front axles with a drivers side punkin. He told me no, but if you take a chevy dana 60, flip it over and put in a reverse cut gear, its the same as a ford high pinion dana 60. I didn't think this would work, due to oiling of bearing issues? I could be totally wrong.

 

Ive seen it where tubes have been switched side to side but never the center section turned upside down.

 

if you did that to a kingpin axle, you would then have the bearing on top and bushing on bottom. i don't think that would work too good.

 

Yeah, I didn't think it would work too well, but was unsure. Seems to be too many issues for it to actually work, the way I see it.

 

the chevy guys used the ford kingpin D-60 back in the late 80's and 90's because chevy D-60 were rarer than hens teeth.
flip the axle, change gears, and remove/flip/ reweld tubes.
it never made any sense to me, because by the time you got done making it work, you could have bought a new axle for less money, and it would not be an abortion.

 

And also because all Chebby 60s are low pinion.




It never ceases to amaze me that people will spend more time, effort and money making something what they want than it is to buy what they need.

An old body man told me to value your time at $10/hr whether you are working for yourself or not. If you spend 10hrs knocking dents out of your own fender and you can buy a replacement for $80 youve lost money. Ive always tried to run my shop that way and its always worked out.


Build a $400 set of traction bars, spend $400 at bars/liquor store/steaks/beer/gun range target holders.
