Gear Ratio for 17/47x15 LTB's

I have 1977 F-150 with a 460 via L&L Products conversion kit. It has the factory 4 speed manual with granny low as I call it. 9" rear and Dana 44 front. I'm debating 4.88's or higher? It's just a "Tar Baby" so it sees little abuse. Currently I have 15/42x15 swampers with 12" of lift. I'm adding 2" to the front in order to accommodate the 47's... I have my fenders cut out with Bushwackers installed.

Don't even worry about regearing. Soon enough you will realize the need for tons and upgrade

Even for the street, 47s are WAY to big for 1/2 ton axles. I would be surprised if the ball joints and tie rods last more then 10k miles, not to mention the braking system downfalls.

Seriously, don't throw ANY money at those axles if you plan on running anything close to that tire size. You can purchase one ton axles for the price of a regear for the front and rear

This truck won't see 10,000 miles! Maybe a few hundred a year if lucky. I was considering 44's but I figured if 47's are available why not. Not sure if 40 additional pounds per tire is much more. I jack the truck up to prevent getting flat spots on my tires. I'd like to put 1 ton axles but that creates too many issues. I've already got $25k invested...

your missing the point it doesn't matter how many miles you drive it if you cross the double yellow line because the truck's road manners are for shxt and you hurt or even worse kill somebody that 25k you got in your truck ain't worth dick ..

What is involved in swamping 1 ton axles on a 1/2 ton frame. Can I utilize my existing suspension and steering? I'm guessing not.

The dana 60 will use leaf springs instead of coil springs. However you can convert the 60 to coil springs with a little work.

If he has 25k invested in the truck and doesn't already have a Dana 60 with crossover steering there's something seriously wrong ..

$25,000 doesn't go very far... $3000 for Arizona parts truck, $6000 in 460, $2000 to L and L Products for Conversion, headers, mounts, clutch, etc, $2500 to NPD, Etch primer and epoxy primer on all frame, suspension, springs, etc with Yellow and black paint. Self Etching primer, urethane primer, sealer, and Sonic Blue with Pearl on all sheet metal, inside, outside and bottom with Stratosphere Clear... I don't even remember what I spent on that... est. about $3000... $1,000 for Skyjacker, $1800 in tires, $800 in M/T rims, Bushwacker, LMC, Warn Bumper and Winch, Driveshafts, etc... adds up fast. That doesn't factor any labor as I did 90% of it myself. It's too bad I can't post any pics... it looks pretty nice. I've owned the truck for 23 years, since I was 15. It's a money pit!

Put a match in the tank and walk away!
Is this thread a joke? Sounds like it.
44's are as big as I'd go if you drive on street and balancing internally with beads are needed. Even then ALL steering components have to be mint and hydro assist steering is a must. Next question you ask is what is hydro assist steering and how is it done. Next answer is you don't have the skills, tools or knowledge to do it.
47" tires,,, 5:13's minimum.
Truck will be so tall it would be useless.
1/2 ton axles? What a joke. Don't bother. 40'' tire tops and that's pushing it for anything but light street use.
47's you have to upgrade EVERYTHING!
Steering , axles, inner axles, driveshafts, suspension, and another big one BRAKES. 4 wheel disc with hydroboost needed.
