New dumptruck, odd shift pattern

I just picked up a nice 59 F600 custom cab dump truck today. Although it's just the standard 4 speed, the shift **** shows this pattern
2-4-R
3-5-1
It is a white **** like all the others. In all my years I never saw a 5 speed with that pattern. Wish it had the transmission to match the ****.

Nothing there where it shows "1"?

That may be for a Clark direct 5 speed.

The Transmission Page

I found pretty much more of the same with a search. The OD trans is marked "OD" for 5th.

Nope, nothing where it shows "1". It looks like the same tranny as my 58 and 60 pickups have, T18 I believe.

Speaking of funny gear patterns, I want to find the transmission that matches the old **** that came with an ancient New Process 5 speed truck tranny!

The shift pattern you describe is for the Clark 250V 5 speed used in the F600. That first to second (non synchro) shift can be a challenge.

What someone might have done is put that **** on the T98 4 speed that was also available.

Dang it all to heck, Jones... Yer killin me with that 7 speed. I put a 210 cu in diesel in my f350 with a 4 speed and I wish I used a 5 speed, but always thought a 6 speed would be better. Now you show up with this...... And yes I vote it's a clark on the first one. Like the military multi fuel 6x6. My kid and I delivered a cab/chassis across the state for a friend last year. Never did get useed to that crazy pattern.........

Gary, why don't you just give in and become an over the road trucker?

Diesels, tons of gears, big wheels and lots of 'em.

Looks like the shifter ball from a recent Fuller or Spicer 7 speed transmission. Not all that old.

Oh, I didn't mean to say that the 7 speed was ancient, it came to me attached to an ancient NP 5 speed truck tranny. GBSISSON, I have always wondered why they didn't use more gears in towing rigs. I have run tractor-trailers my whole life and even back when i had a pair of sticks, a 5 and 4 I still wanted more gears. Now I've been running fuller 18 speeds and that's not enough either. Why can't i have a 9 speed in my powerstroke?

Because to many wussies don't want to shift any more!! You can't expect them to be able to drink their latte, gab on their i-phone, watch the gps and listen to music AND shift can you?!

I wouldn't drive if I couldn't shift. I've never owned an automatic and never will. The couple of times I have had to drive an automatic it never felt or sounded right and usually chose to shift for myself anyways. It makes me sad to go on to the Ford website and not be able to choose a 6 speed manual for the pickups anymore... or any manual for that matter!

They're Warner T-98's (used thru 1964). No T-18's until 1965.

FoMoCo confusion: The Rating/Warranty Plate TRANS code for both the T-18 & T-98 = F

Jones, after 42 years of driving, I bought my first automatic a couple weeks ago. (OK, I pretty much stole it. )Never thought I would. It's kind of like magic or having a genie shifting for you, but they never do it at the right time or place..... not really a great invention IMHO.

LOL :)

From the Classic Bronco's website...
I like these line drawings from this angle, just look under your truck. ;)

x2! :)

Here's my favorite picture of my E4od... ain't it pretty? ;)

^^^That big ol' second guessing piece of crap is outta there! LOL :)

But the weight is about the same as the ZF I replaced it with....

E4od = ~230# = ZF -with- its flywheel and pressure plate
ZF = ~145# = T18 but my T18 also has ~36# cast iron bell housing LOL :)
