White/Blue Smoke Until Warm

I have a 1990 F-250 4X4 with around 300k miles on it. The glow plugs (Beru ZD-9s), GP controller, return caps, CDR, return hoses, return cap o-rings (vitron) and injectors are all new. The truck starts fine, and kicks down from high speed as it should when it starts to warm up (5-7 minutes). The tach sensor is new and the speedometer works properly. When I start the truck it smokes a good size cloud of white smoke and as it runs for the first few seconds it continues to smoke noticeably. After about 15-20 seconds it just smokes a little and after 10-15 minutes the smoke goes away. It seems to me that my fuel injection pump may be suffering from excessive clearance due to wear and tear and as the pump heats up the clearances tighten up and the pump performs better. Does this sound right?

The truck seems a little sluggish, but not terrible. It's had new Fleet Carge antifreeze in it for a year and there isn't any loss of coolant and no sign of pressurization of the cooling systen due to cavitation damage.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on what may cause the whit/blue smoke when cold.

Thanks,
Fred

P.S. The injectors were new (Delphis) and not rebuilt, but they weren't pop tested nor patterned.

Probably needs to be timed, if that is the original pump it's living on borrowed time anyway. I would probably save up for a new pump.

I am having the same problem with my 92 f250 with 237k. Did you ever find out what the problem was?

what kind of shape is the water separator in? been getting good fuel? it sounds as if the injectors should be pulled and tested.
the blue tint upon cold start/idle would be valve seals.time to freshen up the heads.

I'll check water separator. I always fuel up at high traffic stations. Can valve seals be replaced with heads on?

Yes, the valve seals can be changed on the vehicle. There is a thread somewhere around here dealing with advice on that.

I get the white smoke in mine on startup, never seen blue. I have a new IP. I just figured it was condensation in the exhaust (colder it is outside the more white smoke I get, and usually it's worse if truck has been sitting for a week than if I drive it every day)
