well in that case just leave the truck running 24/7 then the batteries will never drain
In your old truck i almost gaurantee if it had this feature and you used it those batteries would have lasted just as long.

Sorry for delay in my response. Busy weekend.

See attached from page 49 of my Excursion manual (2005 Limited). This manual was written in April 2005. Note there are explicit instructions on how to set this delay time. I know it is variable on mine because it will go 'max' after battery disconnects. I always want mine to be as short as possible--10 s or so.

I thought this feature was on my 2003 as well, but I cannot recall for sure.

I have a 2001 Limited and need a new headlight switch (broken ****). Is the switch with auto on/off a direct swap for my year? I had this feature on my 2011 Hyundai and loved it.

If by auto on/off you mean the headlights turning on when it becomes dark, if your truck doesn't have it I wouldn't want to install it. The light sensor is in the front middle of the dash at the window and I'm sure there is a lot more wiring to it than just that. Unless ford pre installed everything, which I could very well be wrong about but I doubt.

Ford gives free access to owners manuals online. A small search reveals: Owner Manuals | fleet.ford.com it will likely have better instructions than the Excursion forum.

Hey Joe, welcome to the Excursion forum!

Hopefully you can find an answer here, but please do remember, this is the Excursion forum, so you might have better luck asking in the Escape forum. Any answer you get here may or may not also work for your Escape, since it's not an Excursion.

I personally don't like the auto lamp feature.
* I don't like the lights coming on under a bridge, in the shade of a tree, etc.
* I don't like the lights on unless I want them on
* I like to drive with the parking lights and factory driving lights on around dawn and dusk (or in the rain and/or FOG)

This is why the switch has the OPTION for you.. VS. Govt requiring me to do something, I like making my own choices.

If you can't hear the "ding ding ding ding" if you leave the lights on when you shutoff your vehicle you've been boxing WAY too long.

Don't do that in California, it's illegal.
