Tie Rod Question

Hey guys - I need some help.

I purchased a new tie rod end - I purchased the MOOG parts because they are greasable, but I'm a little confused on one of the parts.

The part I purchased is this one -> MOOG-DS1439 Front Outer Connecting Tie Rod End - Passenger Side Made By MOOG

I just got it today, and its missing the little clamp looking thing on the threaded end (you can see it in the picture).

Is that supposed to be part of the tie rod end, or is that a separate part - and if so, can I re-use the one thats on there now?

I don't even know what to call it. Also, it didn't come with the grease fitting - the hole is there, but the fitting wasn't included. All of the other parts that I ordered (I'm replacing the entire steering linkage from pitman arm to knuckles) came with the grease fitting in a little bag, but this one didn't.

I'm not sure if I should be upset with the vendor (Amazon) or not.

Thanks!

I think you're referring to the adjustment coupler/sleeve.
You should be able to re-use that one as long as the threads aren't damaged.
But you should be able to get a new one from O`rielly's or AutoZone, etc for like $15.

I actually ordered the adjuster sleeves, but this isn't part of that (at least I don't think it is - I'll have to go check) - its looks like a different piece that's attached to the end of the tie rod.

I spoke to one of the Moog vendors, and they said that there was a redesign and that the manufacturer may not be including that part anymore (they didn't know what it was called either).

I did find out that it IS greasable and was supposed to include a zerk - its also missing the bolt and cotter-pin.

Spoke to Amazon (morons) - first they wanted to give me a 20% refund since it was missing parts, then I just get to keep it??? (um - no), then they want me to return the part, and they'll ship me another one.

I'm going to wait and talk to Federal-Mogul (the manufacturer) tomorrow and see if they will just ship me the small parts so that I don't have to return the entire thing (its HEAVY - gotta cost a fortune in shipping) and wait for a new one to get here.

Thanks for the info!
