1976 and later D44 front axle

I have a 1974 F250 4x4 with closed knuckle and am looking to "upgrade" to later High Pinion D44 open knuckle axle with disc brakes. Found a couple of takeoffs "complete" with springs, haven't seen yet, but seller is asking $950 each. I don't have enough experience to know if this is a good deal or not. I understand condition, actual "completeness" etc should come into play, but I am having a difficult time finding much else.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was looking yesterday for a guy from Ok. and was surprised how little was available on craigslist in Ok. for axles .. $950 is way steep here where I live in Pa. .. $200-$300 for a complete high pinion HD Dana 44 .. Where you live at $950 you might be better off buying a parts truck .. although this in my part of the country I'll use as example 1979 4x4 Flatbed F250

So, would you be able to locate one (at a decent price) for me in your area? I am willing to pay shipping of course

Sure but the shipping would make it cost prohibitive .. Here's one closer to you that drives according to this guy .. That would have the axle your looking for .. Might even be a dana 60 because he says it's a 1 ton frame .. 1979 Ford F250 4x4

Okay, so if I went for something like the 1979 1 ton, i would then have to move the spring pads? Aren't the spring pads closer together on the highboy?

I believe the spring pads are a match .. Someone else should weigh in on that .. The seller doesn't list gear ratio so that needs to be matched to your current axle if it doesn't match you can move both axles .. Also if you haven't done the power steering gear box conversion it would have that for you also ..

This should give you some additional info to go by https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...mpilation.html

I believe the 1979 4x4 F-250 and F-350 frames are the same. The big difference is the F-350 came with a front Dana 60 whereas the F-250 came with a Dana 44 in front.

I bought a Dana 60 in Wisconsin and had it shipped to Utah for about $150.00. No joke. I used U-ship.com.

2 years ago I flew to portland to buy a truck .. 1987 F350 dually four door with 67,000 original miles on it because it was rust free and had never worked .. I picked up 73-79 parts all along the way back .. It cost me $900.00 to drive home

78 leaf sprung f250 8 lug 44 is $150-200 around here. if its rebuilt or anything maybe more but I wouldn't pay much more for one you are getting through the mail unless it comes with a warranty.
