loud pop on hard throttle
Ok when I bought my truck and driving it back to michigan from arizona I was playing with it on the freeway and heard a loud bang. The wife and I looked at each other but it still ran fine so kept on going. After reading a forum today I see I may have blown a turbo boot. Now that I think about it low end seems to be lacking from when I first picked it up. Its a 2001 so maybe its time to change the boots. Should I just go stock again or is there a better replacement? Any recommended suppliers?

Are you sure you blew a boot? Do you have any boost indicated at all? If it just blew off you can clean it up and put it back on. If it split or fraying replace it. I use permatex aviation sealant(brush on top can) on the mating surfaces of the boot then when its tacky, clamp it on. No more blown boots. It wont stick permanently to either surface.

Save yourself some time and effort. You can pressurize your intake to find boost leaks. I took my intake boot (air cleaner) into home depot, went to the plumbing section and with the guys help adapted down to a air hose fitting using pvc and iron pipe. Cost me less than 20 bucks. All you need is a few psi to find a leak. Will you truck make 10 psi now?

If you blew a boot it would make no boost. Plus it would hardly get out of its own way. I'd check it for leaks first before I threw money at it. Just friendly advice.

does it do the pop everytime?
x2 on the blown boot. if you blew a boot you would have trouble going anywhere but down hill with a tail wind.
could it be something in the bed of the truck slaming around?
i only say that cause I had a buddy put something in teh back of my truck with me knowing. and WTF was my first though. it didn't make noise rolling around till I stomped on it. lol. felt like a you know what anyway.
drive line?
transfer case?
just thoughts
best of luck

I have to agree with everyone else, if you blew a boot you wouldnt be moving to fast anytime soon, high egts, takes about a minute or two to get up to 60. i blew one off under hard acceleration on my way to work and immediately lost all power, foot to the floor and was barely accelerating had to baby it at 40-45 or egts were through the roof. definitely checks for leaks first.

Well finally got home and decided to pressure test. Put air to it and with no reading on the gauge but the intake tube pumped up and I can hear air from somewhere under the turbo but doesnt seem to be any boots leaking. sprayed soap around and didnt see any bubbles. Then of course im deaf on my right side so that doesnt help. Drove around the block and can get 10 lbs boost with mild play on the juice in stock program. Truck seems to run fine so I guess if it aint broke dont mess with it....
