Great pic.
So, let's get grounded:
Does it run? Does the motor turn over?
If it doesn't run, how long has it been parked?
We'll want to get a better look at the wheels/tires so Stu can render an expert opinion.
If it has been sitting a while, the brakes will need work - typically new lines, maybe wheel cylinders, maybe a master cylinder.
The fuel tank / line on an unused truck will typically need to be drained and cleaned/replaced.
Electrical systems sometimes are a food group for critters, you'll want to look that over as well.
That's a start - what's your ability level?

Welcome 1950fordf2! Glad to have you here. Great looking truck (aren't they all!) with a good story behind it. Add me to the votes to restore to original type condition. Jump right in with your questions. There's a great group here willing to help out. I commend those who've already responded to this thread offering help and encouragement. To me that is what an "enthusiast" is all about. Good luck and keep us up to date as to how things are going... with alot of pictures of course. It would be great as Bob said to recreate the picture you have some day!
I can relate to how these old machines can honor those that came before us... My interest in my truck really honors my Grandfather (a farmer) and the Ford tractor I have honors my other Grandfather who had a Ford tractor that I remember as a kid. Great stories that connect us all.

Welcome to FTE!
I would vote for returning it to it's stock former glory. It's a great story and I hope that truck stays in your family for many generations to come.
Here are some great articles to read on starting out
TRIALS OF A FIRST TIME BUILDER
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A CLASSIC FORD TRUCK: Part 1 .: Articles
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A CLASSIC FORD TRUCK: Part 2 .: Articles
Be sure to get a shop manual. I typed in "1950 ford truck shop manual" In Amazon and it came up with several copies, including one on CD. Although I like holding the book in my hands.
Also get this CD: 1948-56 Ford Truck Master Parts Catalog CD - HiPo Parts Garage It is well worth the $22.
Label everything you remove. I mean everything, you think you will never forget what that piece is or where it goes, but you will. Take lots of pictures and then take several more. You would be amazed at how helpful they are when you are putting stuff back together.
Be sure to show us a bunch of those pictures as well. We LOVE pictures!
Ask lots of questions, it's better to ask a question with a very simple answer than assume and be wrong. Believe me, I have asked my share of dumb questions and the guys still tolerate me.
