A few questions about the camper package

Looking at pulling the plug on ordering a 6.7 cc 4x4 fx4 this week and i have a few quesitons about some of the questions. Is the only thing the snow plep package offers is the heavy duty front springs? if so are they the same front springs offered in the camper package? Also if i get the camper package on an f250 while i have the sag issues still or does that beef up the suspension sum? Also how different would the ride high be between a f250 with the camper package, and a f350 with out a camper package?

I believe the only real difference is spring pack codes and blocks, and the sticker GVW the truck is rated for. The F250 uses a 2 inch block under rear springs, the F350 a 4 inch block. Camper package gets you overload spring pack on the rear and an antisway bar, no difference on front spring choice it's chosen based on the diesel engine. Heavier X code spring for snow plow prep is a seperate item. If you are using a slide in camper, you want the F350, and still, you may want to add air bags on a single rear wheel for stability depends on camper actual loaded weight of your camper. If you want a big camper, you really need a dually for best stability. I am going by what I know of Ford SDs for the last many years, there might be some other subtle differences. Your choice may vary, I have ownd two campers and am on a travel trailer right now. Much prefered travel experience, but I don't have a need to tow a boat or toys.

My concern is your not allowed to build the truck with both the camper and plow prep.

You won't be able to put a lot of slide-in camper on the back of an F-250 6.7 CC FX4. I have an 11,500 GVWR F-350 CC Fx4 with both the camper and snow plow prep packages. With a full tank and both my wife and I in it, it weighs 8340 lbs. That leaves just 3180 lbs. for a slide in, or 1500 lbs. less than that for an F-250.

As an owner of a F-250, I can tell you I would just buy the F-350 if you are putting a slider in it. I spent a fair amount to install airbags, compressor, taller blocks, new shocks and I still wouldn't put a slider in the truck. Also, a rear sway bar (included in the camper package) is a must, but will screw you up off road. That is my issue...I use mine off road frequently and need the rear articulation (what little of it there is ). Bottom line, I wouldn't fool with a F-250. What little you pay up front for the F-350 worth it if you are putting in a slider. Heck if the slider was heavy, you may want DRW's too.

Ditto that 10 times over.

I agree, get a f350 if your using a slide in camper. 2 sleds on the back of my f250 and its sagging a few inches. I have the camper package as well. The truck will already be sagging a few inches by the time the overloads have started to pick up some of the load.

Both truck would handle the weight the same since they would have the same spring pack, but with the f250 you would be over the 10,000 gvw and look like it sags more because of the shorted blocks in the rear, so like others have said go with the f350 for the higher gvw.
I think the plow prep and camper package give you the same heavy front springs

I don't think you could order both on a 2012 but I found a 2013 on a lot with both packages. As others have stated you will be better with an F350. Adding these packages decreases your legal payload.

Good point. This was a deciding factor for me.

Little off subject but I have a 350 and changed the reg gvwr to 10,000 lbs from 11,500 at the dmv to pay less fee on renewals in connecticut.Saved me 60 bucks, not alot but why pay for what I wont use.Im around 8300 with full tank and my family of 4 and wouldnt have more then 1700 in back when family is in it.Just curious if all states dont allow you to change the gvwr to what you will use it for?My truck is used for towing mainly, not payload.

I registered my truck at just under 10,000. This will give me a legal payload of 2,000. My 5th wheel pin is just 1,150. I wanted to stay within the legal limits. Here the annual registration cost is based on registered gross vehicle weight.

Ok,I must be misunderstanding what you said then.It sounded like you bought a 250 to stay under the 10,000 lb gvwr.I have a 350 registered at 9999 gvwr ..How much less does a 250 weigh? Just the extra rear springs right?I still have 2k available for payload myself legally.

F250 come with either 9900 or 10,000 right?
If I had the option I would have gotten the f350 with 10k package

But here in MA there trying to get it changed so that you don't need commercial plates for over 10k if the truck is for private rv use
