Friend has a 47 1.5 ton with the dump body - all works, but we're missing the linkage from the lever in the cab to the hydraulic lift control under the bed.

There's one rod off the lever that ends in a clevis right about at the back of the cab. We have no idea how to go from that clevis to the control unit.

the truck basically has an all new frame - so there aren't any good hints.

We don't know if there are any other fulcrum type levers involved, or if there's just a bend rod from that clevis up to the control lever.

We tried bending a few to fit - but nothing worked well.

Any diagrams out there? or better yet does anybody have any pictures of what's supposed to be back there?

Would really appreciate ANY help at all.

 

if the control unit has a lever with a hole in it---(it should)---just use a clevis on the control unit lever and a piece of threaded rod for adjustment between the two clevises. this may or may not be period correct, but will solve your problem.

 

Give me a few days and I'll take some pictures. It's been awhile since I last looked at that mechanism.

The control lever in the cab attaches to a rod that goes most of the way back and ends at a pivot arm. There is another short rod that goes from the top of the pivot arm to the hydraulic control lever.

Here's a view of the rear end of the long rod showing it attached to the bottom end of the pivot arm.



The short rod that attaches to the upper end of the pivot arm and goes to the control lever is shown in the second photo.



And finally, a closeup showing how it attaches to the hydraulic valve control lever.



I hope this is enough for you to construct something.

it appears that all you need is a handle in the cab going to the long lever, is this correct? if so, figure out how long , (tall), you want this handle. once you know this, the handle will have a pivot point about 3-4 inches from the BOTTOM of the handle. this would normally mount to a crossmember on truck. there will also be a hole about an inch from the bottom of handle that would have a hole for the long rod in your picture. that should do it. if there is no crossmember, you may need to create a mounting point, thinking along the lines of the fulcrum in your picture. i will try to get a picture of the linkage on my 42 tomorrow. might help.

 

I've got a '40 flatbed dump - don't know if its a factory install or an after market install ( my guess is after market) but I can take photos if you think it would help. I can post on the forum or you can PM me and I'll email photos.

When I took the first batch of photos I was thinking that you only needed to know about the rearmost link. Here's the rest of the story.

Looking up at the two levers. One controls the PTO and the other controls the hydraulic valve.



Next, a view showing the linkage going between the hand controlled lever and back to the pivot point.

In the cab, when you want to raise the dump bed, you pull back on the lever. That moves the long link forward (towards the front). Because of the pivot, the short link moves backward which moves the hydraulic control lever backwards.

nice pictures! don,t want too hijack ,but what kind off cylinder or lift system would that be? on mine all i have is the power takeoff thats left. is the hydralic pomp and cylinder body all together.

 

Yes, the hydraulic pump, reservoir and cylinder are all in one unit. The pto to pump drive is at the front. The control lever is on the top. And the cylinder extends out the back of the unit. The fill hole is on the top near the back.
