Do I really have to buy the Vin "F" water pump for my 96 F350 ambulance

rescue and fire vehicles need a higher flowing water pump at times because they stand idling or sometimes high idling near a fire. they can get really hot and need the higher flow (more expensive) water pump. as long as the pump says it will fit a 7.3 psd of your year and you dont plan on being a paramedic or a fire fighter or parking it 20 feet from a blazing house you will be fine with a "standard" flow water pump

I've seen those pumps on ebay, and I have tried Rock Auto but I guess what I am trying to find out is, why does Partsgeek.com claim that if my truck is a Vin "F" type, I need to purchase a specific (more expensive) pump. Why? What is the difference? If they all have 8 grove pulleys why does a Fire vehicle require a special pump? Or does it? Because other than Partsgeek.com, no other parts house even mentions a Vin "F" specific pump. Do you guys think I'd be safe just ordering the standard water pump for my vehicle? Also what would be a good quality brand? I plan on keeping this truck for a very long time. Thanks
YOU ARE NOT LISTENING. VIN F denotes a POWERSTROKE engine. NOTHING else. They used the same water pump in a 2wd f250 pickup or a F-superduty crewcab with a wrecker body. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE. Parts Geek is WRONG

they use a different water pump if it is an emergency vehicle. because ambulances and firetrucks sit 20 feet away from blazing houses. they also have heavier duty transmission coolers and paint that will withstand higher temperatures. if you think i'm lying find out who does repairs on the local firestation's vehicles and ask him. what i'm trying to say is that parts geek is not entirely wrong as an emergency vehicles uses a water pump that has a higher rate of flow for previously stated reasons and that the water pump from napa or ford will work just fine it just has a lower rate of flow than the emergency vehicle water pump

Straight out of the Gates water pump catalog...
Do you see anything about fire apparatus or ambulance? I sure don't...

umm guy you just cant go and buy parts that are emergency vehicle grade out of any book. to even get them where you can buy them from you have to be the registered mechanic of the fire and rescue dept. the reason you cant get them is unknown to many but our registered mechanic said it was because a special radiator and some other things are used that are not available to the public. that is what the department's mechanic said and he has been registered 21 years
