Well got stuck at the supermarket with the wife bitching and the kids crying. Anyway, got in the car turned on the ignition and just 1 click coming from the relay-solenoid in the fender plus have brand new battery. So I jumped the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock with the screw driver and nothing then tried the 12 and 3 postion and it clicked numerous times but didnt turn over. Battery is brand new and so are post connections. thanks just bought truck a month ago now my wife give me **** cant win

Hmmmmm ive had simular problems in the past. Most of.the time when a ss goes out.you.can jump through it but ive seen em where you cant. Those things used to be 10 or 15 bucks now theyre about 20 try changing it. Its cheaper than a starter you may as well chexk the starter.cable as well may be loose burnt or brOke

Check that you have power on both large terminals of the relay when the key is turned to start. Assuming so, try tapping on the starter while someone is turning the key to start. I've had several starters over the years with sticky solenoids on them...

Yeah, whack the starter with a hammer while someone tries to start the truck. If you have no helper, then just whack then go try to start it. I have had this work many many times.

Well I changed out the relay by fender and the positive cable to relay same thing. So I bought volt meter and it read 12.1 volts with nothing on. Not sure why I just bought it a couple weeks ago even thou it was refurbished/rebuild. Have it on charger now atleast it has warranty. Anyway this battery is only 530 cca is that enough for this 1989 F250. thanks

Well I charged overnight not sure if battery is good. When I took of charger it was 13.0 volts by the time I put in truck it was 12.7 volts. I turned key just loud click. Read on old post here that when you turn truck over and put load on battery if it goes below 11 on meter (looked like it went to 7 then came back up to 12.3 after attempted start) it is not getting enough amps even with voltage to roll up window, door locks. etc. Also after this my meter read 12.4-12.5 I am guessing maybe this battery bad. Any ideas or help. thanks

Sounds like the starter to me. If the starter is locked up, it will draw the voltage down like that. If the motor locked up, the starter won't be able to turn it, and it would do the same thing. (That isn't likely, assuming it was running fine when you shut it off...)

Make sure ALL battery cable connections are clean and tight..

If those look OK, try some booster cables or another battery to rule out the battery having a dead/weak cell.

530 CCA is on the small side.......

that's how i found the solution to my hard starting issues (same symptoms as yours)
i cleaned the connections at the block and at the battery. on the 460 the block connection is a bit of of a pain to get to. i've found that removing the wheel and the inner fender skirt makes it easier.
