1958 hood badge stud repair ?

so i picked up a 58 front hood badge and the upper mount got broken off in the battle. and when i say battle, it was 50 minutes to get it off and the only reason the battle ended was because it did finally break. now i am wondering how to fix it. has anyone ever repaired one or know of a easy fix. it broke off flush at the base and i still have the stud and nut. thanks in advance!

I have never tried to repair pot-metal, which I believe the emblem is made of. There may be some technique unknown to me, but if it were me I might consider drilling and tapping the badge, then epoxying in a small diameter threaded stud with a nut. The emblem may be to thin for this though. And you would of course have to enlarge the mounting hole.

If it were me, I would just locate a different one. Good luck, Steve.

thanks Steve. the pot metal stem that broke is pretty small so drilling out and retaping may not work. i doubt there will be enough material left to re-tap. im gonna try the pin and epoxy or jb weld first. if that fails it will get passed on with a bad upper post and the next owner can do as he will. thanks again

Nice of you to pass it on to someone in need. As stated, they could always just use 2-sided tape.

I guess it would depend on how hard you have to slam the hood!

I wonder if you could set the head of a small bolt, like a 10-32, in epoxy on the back of the emblem in place of the stud.
