Windsheild Cracked

Well went to get into my truck tonight in the garage and my wife says to me "when you going to tell me about the crack in your windsheild" and I said what are you talking about. Well while it was sitting in the garage for 2hrs somehow it cracked about 2ft long on the bottom. I was ticked off, so I called Ford customer service cause reading in the warranty book it says it will not be covered after 12 months from a "stress crack". Not sure what a stress crack is considered so I have to take it to a dealer to see if they will cover it. Heck it is not even 2yrs old yet and only has 17000 miles on it. Anybody had any advise on this before I go to the dealer?

did you check for a nick near the edge of the window? A small nick near the edge can grow overnight.

I didn't see anything near where the crack is, there is a nick about 12" away from where a stone flew up .

One thing, if you decide to use your insurance to cover the glass, have Ford replace it with an OEM windshield. I got the glass in my 2001 replaced, and it's not OEM - and it's pretty wavy. Not enough to see it while looking through it, but enough to see from the outside. Looks weird.

I agree....FYI most dealers use safelite or another similar service....which most insurance companies have a direct contract with & provided you request it, use OEM glass

Well went to the Ford dealer today to have them check it out and they used a ball point pen and ran it along the crack and told me there was a very tiny tiny chip from a stone so they say because the pen got stuck. Now to me I am no wizard but doesn't glass chip when it cracks leaving a chip in the glass. Oh well went to safelite afterwards and they are going to put in a OEM Thursday.

I asked the guy at safelite what something like that costs and he told me $679 for a OEM windshield. Lucky I only have a $100 deductible, hope that doesn't raise my rates never had a claim yet.
