Underneath the bed between the axle and rear bumper. Should be a couple of long bolts and a cross bracket. Lots of times they were removed cause they rattled like hell or the bracket would come loose. If I were going to put one back there again, I would go to a salvage yard and find a late model truck and get the cable hoist and rig it up to fit.

opps, forgot to update.
I had some bolts in the bottom of my tool cart that I was able to use for the starter and all is good there.
Sending unit works but the gauge doesn't read past half a tank. I grounded the wire for the gauge and it went to full, slowly, but it did get to full.
I tested outside of the tank for swing value at top and bottom and the gauge never went above half at full. I am thinking I should replace my cluster since the other gauges are messed up anyway.
These are not easy to come by and money is an issue, so if you guys have any suggestions for a way to get the gauge reading properly I am all ears.
just a note about the gauges in the cluster: all the needles are bent from someone messing around in the cluster so I have no idea if their angles are correct.

I have a gauge cluster for your truck. Bought an xtra one and P&P and found out I just needed a regulator to bring mine back to life. Lets make a deal

OK, I know it's been a while but I finally have some things to post as updates for the truck.
Thanks to some fellow FTE members I was able to get another complete instrument cluster and heater controls.
Thanks to 68fish, I have been able to swap the bezel and gauges for my cluster. I would have just used the entire thing but the 4 gauge cluster has a different plug. So, I stole the gauges, speedometer, and bezel from the one he sent and rebuilt mine. The original cluster bezel looked to have been painted with fingernail polish or model paint. Also the viewing panel from the original was hard to see through. Now it is all nice and clean and purdy. I still need to pull my fuel sending unit and adjust it so that the gauge will read properly. I need to get some gasket material so I can replace the seal if needed.
Here are pics of the old and new cluster.
Old cluster on the bottom and new on the top.
and here it is installed.
Now, thanks to 67nukeford I had a working heater control panel. the original one in the truck had the bottom arm completely broken off and the back of the fan switch was also gone. You will see what I am talking about here in the pics.
here is everything removed for easy access.
here is the old control
And the new one
here the minion helps with reassembly
and here it is all back together
Thanks to the knowledge, generosity, and kindness of the members here on FTE I have been able to keep moving forward with my build. Here's to you

OK, I finally have another update. The toolbox is finally removed and a frame and top built over the tank. Raleigh1 and I took the bottom out of the toolbox and used it for the top cover plate. Using and old bed frame, we built a steel frame to support a seat on top and secure the tank below.
Now I just need to get my woodworking mojo on, and build the slatted bench on top.
Here are some pics as it went along.
Here is the toolbox removed and bottom cut out
and the bottom sheet once removed.
the outer frame built and squared up.
Here is the frame built and top plate attatched
And finally, here it is installed.
I do still have some cleanup to do, but the main thing was to build it.
I have to trim down the front plate to match the height and then drill and bolt it to the new top frame.
