Fuel Filler Neck Mis-Hap!

Fuel Filler Neck Mis-Hap!
So my plan was to go down to the salvage yard and pull a fuel filler neck from any DECENT Ranger I could find. I was able to grab a part off a 99 4wd ranger king cab with a style-side(to me, style-side is NOT the "step-side"), then I was planning on trimming the fuel filler hoses so it would fit. ( I was told and figured that the two flare/style side filler necks were different lengths...which made sense to me. So I cleaned up the salvaged part on the wire wheel, sprayed it with Rustoleum , and proceeded to remove the original from my truck.
It was/is a rusty mess...but any ways when i got it off and laid the two side by side, they are the EXACT SAME LENGTH! What gives here man?!
I spent hours on the web, making calls to various parts counters etc...etc...for nothing!! It's the same freaking thing. AND my local FORD Dealer wanted to charge me like $350 some odd bucks!!
I suppose it is possible that the truck at the yard had already been replaced and modified , but it didn't appear that way. Everything under the truck appeared factory.
So I don;t know what all the hype is about. All I know is Im glad I bought the $15.00 junk-yard special!
