Aftemarket Radio

For you guys that have done the double din install Iwould like any input.

I have a 1999 SD. I understand after reading Ford F250's post that some dash modification is involved. I was wondering about the electrical connection part. Is it plug and play with the ford connector? Is there a part number for that? Or will I have to hunt around and cut and splice wires?

Part number for Adapter kit?

I am looking at the Pioneer AVH-P2400BT Pioneer AVH-P2400BT DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com

I live in a rural area and don't think there is much HD radio around here but when I travel who knows, is HD radio worth the xtra $60?

Other recomendation on units, I am in the $250 to $350 range.

I don't see that it has a SD slot but USB...Would I be able to use a USB to SD card adapter to play music? I have a huge music file on SD.

I have a Garmin GPS with bluetooth. The Garmin also is a MP3 player. Will I be able to stream the MP3 from the Garmin to the Pioneer unit?

DVD and Rear Camera bypss?

Recomendation for Rear View camera?

Mines a cheap double din, but works for now. Yes there is a little work that need to be done to the dash bezel to fit some, but its not major. As for the plug and play, I bought the ford adaptor from best buy spliced that to the one that comes with the radio, and its a simple plug and play.

I have a Pyle from Amazon. Paid around $275 or so. It has am/fm radio, cd, dvd, bluetooth, backup camera, nav, ipod cable sd card and a few extras. Only problem is that when it powers up the volume goes to 10 a little loud. I would buy it agian.
The directions suck.

I have 2 pioneer units. I.believe the one in my truck is a 3200bt is will not stream Bluetooth but it has a SD card slot. My wife's does not have a SD slot bit does stream Bluetooth audio very well. I think hers may be a 3400. I like the touch screen. It has connections on the back for connecting other audio. For the price I.will stay with pioneer. And no I.don't think the HD is a big deal.

I got that same unit from amazon for about 250. I love it. Get the wiring connectors. It is worth the time.

Yes on the USB port. No on the SD port.

Don't know about the GPS.

Yes on the DVD and back up camera. I love the back up camera.

I got a Pyle unit from Amazon too. Can't remember what model. I have an 08 tailgate so I got a tailgate handle that holds the camera from eBay. Had to fab a little to make camera fit it but it was worth it. Trailer hook ups couldn't be easier.

There is a Metra adapter the will plug into your factory harness and have bare wires on the other end. Match up the colors with butt connectors or solder with heat shrink tape.

Huge music files on a SD card is not necessarily a good thing on these radios. They have to read the files each time you select it which can take several minutes on my Pioneer unit.

DVD bypass can be done with a simple automotive relay.

Camera bypass, run two power lines to the camera one from the reverse lights that will turn on the camera when the truck is placed in reverse. Place a diode on this wire. Second wire can come from a switch in the cab that way you can power up the camera and select to view it while driving forward. The diode will prevent the reverse lights from coming on when doing this.

HD radio.....worth it!

I bought a inexpensive camera off amazon for $24. Works great and even has a range grid built into it to let you know how close you are.

The streaming from anything Bluetooth does not work on my Pioneer unit. Bluetooth only works the phone.

I decided. I orderd the Pioneer AVH-P3400BH with HD tuner. All mounting kits, hardware and wire harness are included from Crutchfield. Also bought a rear view camera. Accele RVC50. I chose it because it's advertised as waterproof and and works in the dark... I got the Video bypass from amazon. Will see how it all goes together when it comes in.

You will be pleased. Good luck. Take your time when cutting the dashboard.

The easy way to trim the dash is with a drumel tool. Makes the trimming so easy.

There is a button on the radio that lets u manually select the backup camera. No need ti put a switch on the dash. I didn't even hook it up to my reverse lights. I.didn't want of coming on every time I put it in reverse.
The "button" is on the touch screen.
