Double Din Install 1999 Ford F250

I am going to upgrade my stock radio with a Double Din touch screen unit. I have read that there is some modifying to the dash to get these units in? What is involved?

Features I am looking for.

Touch Screen
Bluetooth
DVD/CD
Rear view camera ready
Aux jack
Price range $250 to $350

I have looked at Pioneer AVH units

I'm working through the same research.

I'm leaning this way: Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS

I like the 7" screen. I'm still looking though.

What I would really like is to have the ability to do this:

But, the Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS has "Advanced Appradio" and the developer has yet to create an app for this.

I would like to have my torque app on the screen also. Kind of like this,

That is a great unit, I only have a dumb phone. Lucky even that is has bluetooth. I have such a good Grandfatherd contract I don't want to give it up. But it does not do anything like Androids.

Not to change the subject but if you want to monitor engine fucntions have you seen Vivid Linq from Superchips to run scans and view engine stats from your smart phone?

Ok, everything is on the way.

Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS ordered from "hookedontronics" = $384.50

The rest from Crutchfield

Pioneer TS-A874M 3 way speakers = 4 $160 (Crutchfield provides wiring harnesses for each speaker for lug and play free)

Dash kit brackets = $14.95 ( Item# 120955817 )

Ford wire harness for Head Unit = $11.99 ( Item# 120701771 )

I could buy the dash kit and wire harness other places cheaper, but would have paid shipping on each.

Ordered this morning, and both have posted they have shipped those products.

Install will be the week of the 8th of April.

Speakers may sneak in there sooner though! LOL

I ended up going with Pioneer avh-p3400bh. I kept the stock speakers.

The radio, installation kit, Ford radio harness and backup camera came from Crutchfield. The video overide relay came from Amazon.

After looking at the instructions...I paid a pro to install it. He did not like the install kit that came from Crutchfield so I ended up buying a kit from him (Best Kit BKFMK552). The Crutchfield kit did not include a trim ring but a trim strip. It did not look right.

I watched the install. He did not pull off the dash board. He trimmed the lip off the dash. He would have been done in less than a hour but he had a hard time finding the reverse wire for the backup camera. Installation took about an hour and a half.

Looks good.

I really wondered about the install kit. Took a chance on Crutchfield. Might need to order something else. Dang.

Thanks for the pics and info!

How do you like the dash install kit? I bought mine from amazon but it is the same one that Crutchfield offers. But wonder if I should go with the one the OP had installed. Looking at the pictures of both, they both look ok to me.

That looks great. What are the features of that receiver? Is the wood dash stock?

One thing I do notice between the two kits is that the one from Crutchfield sets the head unit back deeper in the dash. This looks like it is the same depth of the A/C controls, where the other is flush with the dash.

It looks fine to me. It does sit a little deeper than what I thought it would. But, it looks closer to how the stock fit, and how the heat controls are.

This one doesn't give any adjustments for depth.

As for the park brake by-pass. Pioneer has the system designed now to require the brake to be pushed and released twice. Or so it seems. So, I put the brake wire to an extra switch on my dash, and ran ground from it. I wasn't using that switch. I did try the relay system. No go.

Here is a link to it. Too much for me to try to express.

AVH-X5500BHS - NEW! - 2-DIN Multimedia DVD Receiver with 7" WVGA Touchscreen Display, MIXTRAX, Bluetooth®, HD Radio™ Tuner, SiriusXM Ready, and AppRadio Mode for iPhone® | Pioneer Electronics USA

The dash is not stock. It is a molded piece from B&I. (they call it 3D) Plus the added pieces for filling in the smaller areas.

Molded Dash Kits, 3D Dash Kits, Molded Wood Dash Kits
