Fuel tank suction tube

I just ordered a new fuel tank for my 93 and I know that the pick up tube is going to be in bad shape. What is the best thing to replace it with? Will standard 3/8 fuel line hold up being submerged in diesel? Should I have some sort of strainer on the end of it? Does it need to be weighted to keep it on the bottom of the tank? I know several people have made their own any pictures out there of what you have made that worked good would be helpful.

I think a lot of people like to put a brass T at the end of the pickup line or cut a V notch in the hose so they can't get stuck in the bottom of the tank.

I am not sure what material to use for the hose though.

I used regular fuel hose. Technically this is wrong as it's not designed to be submerged.

You can get the proper hose online or you can order it at Napa, but be sure to specify submersible fuel hose. Very pricy $$$

I cheated because I plan to revisit pulling my bed and removing the sending units to repair or replace the circuit boards to get my gauges more accurate. At that time I'll inspect the fuel hose for damage or swelling and determine then if I need to get the right stuff.

I only V notched mine, no strainer, but you're right, there are a lot of different ideas done by the different members here.

The brass "T" sounds like a good idea, it would add a little weight to it too.

I'll check out the submergible fuel line, should need more then 2 feet at the very most. Even if its $10 a foot it would be worth the peace of mind.

You might have better luck then I did, but Napa told me I'd have to buy X amount before they'd place the order. The price was by the foot, but I couldn't just buy a foot.
