I got about 250k miles on a set of NAPA rotors. They had two grades of rotors so I chose the premium version. I never turned the rotors, just replaced pads. Eventually the rotors wore down near the min thickness cast into the hub so I recently put my OEM set back on. Only 60k miles on that pair so I hope to get another 180k or so before I need to replace again.

I went with Power Slots, not thrilled, now have oem front rotors. I am about to replace the EBC Yellow stuff pads, less than 40% left after 15k miles, will put oem back on. I tow a 12k lb 5th wheel.
New oem rotors and pads in the rear, 15k miles ago.

Applied Rotor Technology is a sponsor here, with some good reading on their site. OEMs seems to last a long time, easy for me to recommend them, but for similar coin I'd look at cryo's pretty hard. Maybe slotted, but not drilled. It's a truck not a sports car.

Stay away from the ceramic pads for sure. Go with premium or oem with the rotors and pads. You'll be wasting your money if you dont. Ceramic pads severely overheated my OEM rotors on my "05 excursion, with no load. Trashed all and replaced with premium rotors and pads, noproblems after that.

2002 F250 Brake Problems

I'm new to the forum and really could use some help. I have a 2002 F250 Crew cab 7.3L PSD truck with 121k miles on it. I started noticing that while driving down the road the truck would slow down as if the brakes were being applied. One time it would be the front and another felt as if it were the back brakes. I had all the brake lines replaced, replaced the front and rear pads and calipers. I had this done at a normal commercial garage. The brakes kept doing the same thing but it was worse after the work was done. I have stopped many times at the side of the road with smoke coming off the brakes. They replaced the pads and calipers a total of 3 times on the front and back. Still no good. Finally they gave all my money back and I took it to a local Ford dealer. They drove it a total of 101 miles over a week and did not find anything. I pucked the truck up last Sunday and within 15 miles the front brakes started shaking the front end. I can slam the brake pedal a couple of times and you can feel the brakes ease up and act normal. I am not crazy and have several people witness the brakes who were with me. I joined FTE for help!!! Any and all help is welcome!!!

welcome to FTE.
my money is on a a bad master cylinder.
it sounds like the piston is not returning to center, and keeping a bit of pressure in the system. the more you use the brakes, the more pressure it holds until it will lock up the brakes.

Good call on the mc. I was thinking contaminated fluid, but that should be flushed out. Just hope it's not the proportioning valve, which is in the abs hydraulic control unit. Which list's for about a grand.

Thanks for the input!!! Going to have the master cylinder checked/replaced tomorrow. I assume that they will have to flush the system as well if it is replaced. The brake issues just started out of the blue. I bought the truck from a guy who rarely drove it. I was using it about every day for the first several months when I noticed just starting to become an issue. Thanks again!!!
