Upcoming long trip do you trust visual inspection on hoses?

End of july long trip upcoming with ex and boat in tow.

Do you all trust visual inspections on hoses?

maintenance can get expensive just replacing things that are not broken because they might break someday.

Generally can I trust that hoses like upper and lower cooling and ps and all the little ones around the manifold and trans cooler lines; if they look non-cracked and not bulging and generally in good condition that they should be fine?

i am a good diy mechanic but time and money run short for just changing everything just in case.

Thanks for the shared experience.

Can’t hurt to give them a good look over, particularly at the ends for signs of leaking. Also feel them over for soft spots or bulging. Carry a new roll of gorilla duct tape just in case......

Cooling hoses are like light bulbs. If they were all installed at the same time, made of the same material, doing the same job at the same time... when the first one has signs of failure, bulging, cracking seeping.... change them all, IMO.

Most products have a designed EOL (end of life) value.

Agree, I replaced all mine at 150k. even though they looked fine. My lower hose oil cooler rubs on the cross member and was thinner there.

New hose now now with more protection. Much more convenient than a roadside repair with kids hot and complaining.

Can’t argue with preventative maintenance

Changed All hoses?

Did you guys really do all coolant hoses?

oil cooler lines and trans lines too?

how much did that set you back?

There are are many small ones around manifold.
And long heater core to rear and medium length to front core.

Not all at once, but yes over the past 19 years and 200k+ miles. We’re talking rubber lines right, not steel, aluminum ones?

RockAuto.com for price checking.

Right, especially if you have the coolant heated PVC.

Only replace the rubber part ot the end, the metal lines should be ok.

No need to do all this before your vacation, but if you’re going to keep the truck for years and don’t like roadside fixes, some preventative maintenance on rubber hoses is wise.

I carry a spare one of these with me, when they go, it’s a mess (no China knockoffs).
