Front brakes

Got my dad's 97 f250 jacked up in the front and both calipers seem tight but not alot. If I put a dot on the top sidewall of the tire and gave it a spin it would only go 7-8 inches. Not even a 1/4 of the tires diameter. I would think with the brakes not engaged it should spin more than that. Thinkin just replacing the calipers a rubber lines anyway cause i'm sure it needs it.

You could have a caliper piston not releasing all the way or you have corrosion on the caliper pins. Either way you should remove the tire and inspect for what the hangup is. A caliper piston hanging up is usually caused by rust and crud causing the piston to stick. Rust and corrosion on the caliper pin keeps the caliper from moving.

Took one side apart and thought I would tear it down and see if it was worth just putting a rebuild kit in it. Saw some rust behind the dust boot and one of the pistons had a couple of chunks out of it on the back of it. Not going to bother tearing down the other side, Looks like new calipers for me!!!

also remove the stainless shims between pads and support.rust can build up there and not let the pads release properly. with 320000 i replaced calipers, hoses and blasted and painted the caliper supports.

Thanks for the tip fordman67. I went to napa and got new calipers with mounting bracket as that was the only ones they had instock. Came with new stainless hardware. Got new hoses too. $120 for all of it, not too bad I didn't think. Bet this really helps the mileage.

it will. AND if you coast often you can boost mileage up a bit also by "using" the speed you have already.
