Can you solve it?
I have a 73 f250 with a 360. It was spitting gas out of the carb if given too much gas so I just replaced the carb. It started up just fine and ran great for a few minutes. Then the idle began to pulse and it began to die. It was unresponsive to giving it gas at this point, and just fizzled out. Then it wouldn't start. After trying it an hour later it ran great again for a few more minutes then repeated the above mentioned. Any ideas? It didn't do this before the new carb, but definitely runs a lot better with it for a few minutes. I messed around with some vacuum combinations thinking I messed something up when installing the carb, but nothing seems to help.

Thanks for the replies. Since then I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. Also replaced all the plugs and wires, along with the valve cover gaskets due oil leaks. It fired right up and ran well after that. I drove it around for a bit and it ran great other than some extream exhaust leaks which shake the neighborhood. Today I got it out of the driveway after warming it up for 10 minutes and it died and would not start. It turned over well, just wasn't firing. After 10 minutes I tried it again and it stared up, although it backfired and died if given too much gas too fast, and died if not giving enough gas. For example, it iddled fine, but as soon as I put it in to drive, it would die unless I was giving it gas while puting it in to drive. I've attempted to post some pictures below of the carb. Im not confident that the vacuum lines are hooked up corectly. Any feedback would be greatly appretiated. Thanks!

Hmmm both chokes are not connected. That may be part of the problem when cold. I'd hook up the electric choke to see if behaves any differently.
The other potential problem is a leaky accelerator pump. It'll act like it is flooded and will only fire up when the fuel pooled in the exhaust manifold has evaporated. I'd throw a $22 rebuild kit at the carb before buying a new one. Start with these two steps and it'll remove most of the unknowns except for your tuning it.

Wasnt the carb new? Looks like the choke is hanging half open...and not hooked up...part of your problem is that...you can wire it open...or hook it up...You could be having ignition/pickup coil/coil problems if its getting gas I'd dig into the ignition...could be a float problem but if its new I would hope it was set correctly but couldnt hurt to check the float

It is a new carb. I didn't have the skills necessary to rebuild the old One. I hooked up the new one just like the old was hooked up, so I guess the old one didn't have the choke hooked up either. Hopefully this isn't an offensively basic question, but how do I hook up the Choke?
If your old carb choke wasnt hooked up Personally I would just wire the choke in the open position. see what it does... it needs a power source, and intake heat lines I think looking at the pics...
