Got offered a 99 F250 for my 2004, opinions?
Hi, I am new to the diesel truck world but have a pretty good idea of the basics. I recently got my first diesel truck which is a 2004 F250 xl diesel with the 6.0 powerstroke which the truck was an old government vehicle which got retired. It has 30k miles on it andthe huge negative is it is 2 wheel drive and I live in Michigan. Although i have gotten around fine with it all winter. Recently I started looking into getting something new and I got offered a 1999 F250 xl diesel with 4x4 that has 80k miles and he wants to trade but wants an extra 1k on my end. I am just wondering if anyone has an opinion on if this would be a good trade for me? I am currently getting about 19 mpg with my truck and haven't had any of the 6.0 issues. All thoughts would be appreciated!

The only reason, IMO you have not had any 6.0 issues is lack of miles on the drivetrain.
80K on a 7.3 is like a 6.0 with 30k. That 7.3 will go 400k with just regular maintenance. How many 400k 6.0l are on this board?
I would try for even trade, but I would problably go for 500 if he wouldn't do it straight up. 5 years model yr wise isn't to much for these trucks. They are still nearly the same. trans and engine are the main differences.

I'll be the odd man out here. While I think it might be a good trade (depending how much you want 4x4), I certainly wouldn't pay extra, I think the $1,000 should go the other way actually. While the 7.3 may be a more respected engine, the transmission in the 99 certainly isn't. Granted a transmission is cheaper than an engine but neither truck should need engine work for a long time. The 6.0 can be a very good engine if it's not abused.

I would try that but a low mile 7.3 seems hard to find especially in my price range so I feel like this would be a rare trade to be.offered for my truck. I do prefer the regular cab too because.of how well you can see from the driver's seat.. The one negative to his is a plow he has on it but claims to.only use.it for his driveway
