I'm going to hunt down a deal on a catback and call it done. All the single exhaust kits are 3" and they will be cheaper than having a custom setup fabricated so they'll have to do. It just comes down to chambered or turbo and I have absolutely no idea what the turbo mufflers sound like in person.
Turbo Mufflers are really raspy/quiet. Most have fiberglass matting in them to absorb the sound and dissipate it as heat energy.

My Y pipe, and piping cut, bent, flared, and welded was less than $100. The muffler was a Thrush Turbo Muffler, approx. $50.

And it's custom tailored to my truck.

To be honest with you, for a stock application, a 2" pipe would be cheaper and fit the bill. In the end, it's a 300ci engine (The pushrod style 302 v8's weren't TRUE 5.0l engines:

4.9l I6 = 4.928? cubic inches
5.0l V8 = 4.965? cubic inches

Both have a 4.00" Bore Diameter; The difference is the amount of cylinders and stroke length.)

In the end, a 4.9l engine with all factory Valvetrain will only move X amount of Air in AND out, @ X rpm.

Math doesn't lie.

I'm just trying to get the best mpg and a little extra tone from the exhaust. I know this truck will never be a performance truck but I'm going to try to find a deal on a 351w block locally to freshen up and slap a nice h/c/i setup on.

How did you do your intake like in those pics on the last page? I have one of those filters but I don't know what to do with the piping to make it work.

As for the leveling kit. You'll need to re-align your wheels afterwards, but it shouldn't be a big deal. These trucks look a lot better when you get them off the ground a little!

Yea. I haven't decided how much I want to bring it up. I may just do the 2" spacer in the front and then throw some 31s on there and call it done or I may do 4" front 2" rear. I'm sure I'll start small and move up.

6" of lift with a TTB setup is the max, without getting extra, customized parts ($$$)

Lifting a vehicle in general drags mpg down, because it lets more air hit the underside, which in all honesty, isn't the most..."Aerodynamic"...Thing on the truck. Coupled with huge tires....You're looking at 2-3mpg WORSE than OEM everything.

Go for 4" in the front and 2" rear. My 88' F-350 has slightly bigger springs that give it just over 1.5" and I have 33" tires that are a little taller than stock. I want to add 3" more lift all around sometime soon, and I'll probably run 35" tires when my 33" tires wear out.

You can always put the 2" in the trot to start out, then just move those blocks to the rear later when you get 4" for the front. The only thing is that you'll have to align the wheels twice...

Alignments aren't expensive around here.

Yeah, they're not expensive. Not hard to get it pretty good on your own either.

Did you find 4" spacers locally? The only ones I've seen at Advance Auto, NAPA, and AutoZone are 1", 2" and 3" with the clamps to go along. None about 3".

I have no cats, no mufflers and true duals dumping before the rear tire. Sounds really loud, good at under 3k and most people don't know the difference between it and an 8 cylinder but after 3k rpms it sounds like an orgasming tractor/diesel/civic combo. It's too loud for me and only temporary but I am planning on just doing a single pipe 2 1/2 till about halfway going to a 3 inch and running a Dynomax turbo or stock style muffler.

That sounds like it would be obnoxious. I like loud on v8s but not for this thing. Just a small amount of extra volume.

How do you adjust the wheels back right? If I can do it myself, I may order the 2" spacers this week.

Sounds good.

As far as exhaust, I think I'm going to cut off the back cat, then run some 2.5" pipe to some muffler, not sure which one yet, and then dump it before the axle. Will keep it subtle without projecting much sound.

Anyone heard a spintech on a 4.9? The v6 mustang guys love them.
