Red Head Steering Gears - Steering Gear | Steering Gear Box

They make super high quality re-manufactured steering gears. They install needle bearings and do all kinds of machining to the units.

Those with the heavier trucks swear by them, and since I have an Excursion I decided to get in on the next group buy. While I am at it, I am going to get one for my F250.

Red Head steering box. One of the best there is. What do they run normally?

Price depends on application, I am sure. I had read in another thread someone was quoted a price of around $326 plus $100 core. Another said $326 with $150 core. These were for late 70s Ford trucks.

i put one of these in my truck.
it took some getting used to going around the corners for a bit.i kept wanting to over correct as i come out of the turn and either head towards the ditch or the wrong side of the road to account for the slop in the steering that was no longer there.must have taken me at least a week to just drive straight again lol.
supposedly they're built to last which is why i bought one of course.so i hope it does.based on all the reviews, can't say im too concerned.

I replied to your thread in the Excursion forum, but you might want to start one in the SD forum.

This sounds like a good upgrade, especially since my truck is lifted. I have a 88 F250 with the Dana 44HD axle. Do they make one for my truck? And do they make a big difference over stock, especially with a lift? I might think about getting in on this.... maybe.

I would love to do this, but unfortunately I had to fly back to Ontario for stupid lawyer crap. Otherwise I would have been all over this.

Just ordered my box. Only had the $ for one right now so got it for my pickup. Item price $256, core $75, shipping (to N.D.) $35. They will start out applying the maximum group buy discount, which I was told is $50.

So, my total after sending the core back will be $240!

Oh, and it will be here on Wednesday.

Mine was a dollar cheaper, coming to MN.

A nice further upgrade is a Borgeson steering shaft with vibration absorber on one end. I had that setup in my old CnC. It made a world of difference, coupled with the Redhead, over my original steering.

Yes, they make one for your truck.
Sterring boxes are the same from 80-early97, RANGER, Bronco, F150,F250,f350 and F-superduty ALL USE THE BAME BOX. (2 bolt covers)
In late 97 they have almost identical box but 4 bolts on the top cover.

Unless yours is worn out, you will see no difference
