What other gear box fits a 223 engine

What other gear box fits a 223 engine

Hi what gear box fits the 223 straight 6 engine.Is the a modern auto box or what else would fit.Thank you Pete

This place has a few but I'm interested in what other have done.

As far as I know, just the light duty 3 speed (303 I think) and the T98 4-speed came standard. The clutch sizes differ. I think 10" for the 3-spd and 10 1/2" or 11" for the 4-speed, can't remember exactly. John Mummert makes/modifies bellhousings for the 223 to accept a C4 auto trans. Google his name...he has a lot of Y-block stuff!

There were two 3 speed transmissions and one 4 speed. The light duty 3 speed and t98 like you said but there is also a medium duty 3 speed. Someone will have to chime in about auto's. I hate those things. I do know that it is very simple to adapt a t5 manual to a 3 speed bellhousing.

1954/62 F100/250 = Ford 3 speed light duty manual trans, non 1st gear syncro.

1963/64 F100/250 = Ford type 3.03 3 speed manual all syncromesh trans.

1954/64 F100 = Warner T-86 3 speed manual with Overdrive.

1954/64 F100/350 = Warner T-98 4 speed manual trans.

1954/61 F100 223 = Ford-O-Matic.

1962/64 F100 223/292, F250/350 = FX Cruise-O-Matic.

Warner T-87 H/D 3 speed manual not available in F100's.
