1977 F100 cab heater wont turn off

My 'climate control' is an original from 1977. Its decided it doesn't want to turn off so its blowing hot air. Any ideas how to fix it?

Sure. I would do some troubleshooting to identify the problem and then take measures to correct it.

What troubleshooting have YOU done? And don't tell us posting in FTE was your first step. Give specifics.

Ah we are all on here for the most part pretty sharp and some what experienced with alot of issues. But before I tell you the secrete, we need more information, like what have YOU tried to do to fix it?

Shooting in the dark....When you move the temperature lever from hot to cold is the control cable still attached to it? If it moves real real easy probably not....they have a loop or 2 on the end of the cable.

Pull the dash gauge bezel (ring) and carefully remove the control panel or you might be able to eye ball back there to ch on the cables connection.

Hopefully the temp cable has slipped off.

The bottom lever should change the air selected direction from the floor/dash to the defrost.

Blower switch is self explanatory.

I have adjusted the controls between hot and cold, floor and windscreen. The levers are tight to move. The directional lever definately works. There does not seem to be any loose wiring in the back of the unit. Thanks for the suggestion that temperature control cable may be loose, I had not thought of that.

Much appreciated.

Do you mean the blower motor physically never shuts off, or it shuts off fine but just won't blow "cool" air? If it's the former, does it at least respond to the speed control? If so, you can check for a shorted selector trigger switch by simply disconnecting the pigtail from the back of the controls. But you need to give more information.

Is it the heater or the defroster? I had an issue once with a broken vacuum line under the hood and the the defroster would blow hot air all of the time. It appears that the default setting when there is no vacuum is defrost.

Check the line going to the coffee can looking device under the hood. If the vacuum line is disconnected, the truck will blow hot air all of the time.

The heater control valve defaults to open if no vacuum to it. It's in the heater hose line.

I was just going to reply, but Bear tracks beat me to it about the heater valve. It could also be stuck in open, which would supply hot water to heater cor all of the time.
