taking over a 49 f1
hey guys, im new here and heres my story. my names Chris and my dad has had a 49 f1 in our garage my entire life. i only have one memory of it running and it was from the day it broke down which started the rebuild process 20 years ago. well due to some unforeseen circumstances he needed it moved so i decided to take it on. as it sits now it has a 302 in it that ran with it the last time it was driven. the tranny is a c4 and has an 8" rear end. theres a volare front end in it that he had done sometime in the last 20 years. i have almost everything i need to get it back together in a couple crates. here are some cell phone pics just sitting in my garage now. im hoping to get it back in running order and just being able to cruise around in it. im looking forward to all the help i can get being here!

Hey Chris,
Welcome Aboard! Always good to see a close cousin to our truck brought
back to life - we've got a '50. It would be great if your suspension is good to go - that's one of the tougher/expensive parts of this project. Be kind to the doors & hood - can't find those in the reproduction parts dept. for our year's.
Do you have a plan of how you are going to approach it?

Im almost positive the suspension is all in order. I haven't ever done anything this extensive but i have been reading the forums and have plenty of help. My plan is to get the brakes all replaced. They're in pretty bad shape. Then start working under the hood. I have a radiator but not sure what kind of shape its in. The whole inside of the cab is apart. Only thing in place there is the steering column. I don't have a gas tank but getting a mustang tank to put under the bed will be an easy task. I have family who builds old mustangs and have acres of parts. If anyone has any ideas or pointers please don't hesitate. I appreciate any help i can get.

Hey Chris,
We put a 22 gallon '70 Mustang tank in our's. A member named Jniolin has the "how to" on this one on his page if you look around. (It's nice to get the extra 38% range vs. the stock 16 gallon tank).
No need to get a used tank as new ones are only $120 on rock auto & others. If you go with a set of new gauges - be sure to put an after market sender in the top of the tank on installation. The '70 sender won't talk with newer gauges. (You need to use the '70 sender as well to run the gas line into the tank but not for fuel status info).
