95 runnin hot

so, when i drive i notice the truck warms more then usual, however when i stop at idle in drive it really warms up. so tonight i decided to let it idle in drive let it warm up a bit for about 30 seconds and once the needle steadied out, put it in neutral and tapped the gas. the temp needle instantly began to drop. would this mean that i need a new water pump?

thanks for any help

My 90' 302 did this consistently for months. Instead of pressure testing for leaks and serious troubleshooting. I went the cheap and quick shot in the dark and put a thermostat in. Never happend again.

Hmm, intresting seeing how thermostats are cheap i reckon ill try that first. I just dont wanna blow a water pump and get stranded. Know of any good ways to check a water pump?

I would be guessing you need that thermostatic drive to the fan behind your radiator.

If you get out on the open highway driving 50 MPH or faster, does it run cool then? If it still runs warm then, you can forget the answer in my first paragraph.

One more question, is the shroud behind your radiator that goes around the fan in place?

Yea it is.. However the unthinkable happened tonight.. I went to replace the thermostat, mind you the truck has always leaked coolant a very small amount since i got it. From what i thiught was a location.. Anyway i went to take off the housing and the bolt sheered off... Nightmare... I tried extractin it woth extracting tool and nothin. Well before that happened i drained a little coolant off from radiator, it came out nasty and rusty.. Another nightmare.. Ive had the truck not that long and way i fogure the old dude who owned it last never did extended maintaince. So now it holds coolant and has a drip about every 45 seconds from where bolt sheered.. One bolt holds it on, so lone be hold i didnt even get to thermostat. Terrible. Ive done alot of projects. This one takes the cake so far, so now i in to i believe a new radiator prolly new hoses and hopefully thatll fix my first problem? Idk right now im just gonna sleep on it i guess..
