600 cfmwill work best .Quadrojet is harder to tune than holley eldenbrock good out of the box is good but my opinion is the holley .When working with carburators first you must understand how they work if you don;t messing with one will get you in trouble I see it all the time guys putting in too big of cam then too big of carb not enough rear gear then they complain this carb s no good No power poor mpg surges stalls . some guys think bigger is better not true as a rule on a 400 inch motor or less 600 to 650 cfm is plenty anything bigger on a basic stock motor is a no no 700to 850 good for 429 460engine but hey a650 works great on these motors

Tune up that 2150 carb jet up to 57 duel exhuast it play with the timing and she should run good I got a79 f250 4x4 410 gears 33 inch tires and got plenty of power .I had another 79 f150 with 3.50 gears 4 spd headers and eldenbrock intake and 600 holleyran real good and I got 15 mpg on long trip .If you just off roading do you really thing your going to get mpg? Id say power is more important off rd than mpg

WE got one Guy right one wrong Montana Highboy is right You always run ported vac off base of carb to vac advance never direct manifold vac to vac advance If you do this yes you will have advance at idle and up but when you dropp the hammer you will have very little vac so no vacuem advance result ing in less power. On one other note When adjusting carb with fuel mixture srcews hook up your vac guadge to manifold vacum turn screws in or out to get highest vac reading this is where you will get your best idle and mpg and power

WOW lots of new stuff here.

Valley pan, looks like yet another very good reason not to run one. I see no need and no up side for you to putting that back in or even replacing it. I don't know where that water came from, lots of options, and really I don't think it matters. You're fixing it.

Timing chain, uhm EEEEEEK don't use it, looks pretty darn stock to me, and what's with the rust. No freaking way should you put that back in, and it's sure looking like a stock retarded version.

X2 Redroad is absolutley right about retorquing, ANYTHING alumuminum should be retorqued, most important wheels but that's something else.

X2 AK FORD GUY is absolutely right about the "Right Stuff" I love that s***. Same with not using end gaskets and the gap at the corner of the head.

*Office Space Boss Voice* "I'm uhm going to have to uhm disagree with you there" lol. Anyway, I disagree with redroad and I guess the mighty Edelbroack about the valley pan, you shouldn't use it. For Edelbrock it's a performance thing to help cool the manifold, that and they're carbs are sensitive to heat. For you a hotter manifold is a good thing as it's good for MPG and you don't really have to worry about overheating the carb with a Holley and the spacers.

Putting it in is also a bigger chance of a vacuum and more important a coolant leak as there is just that much more to go wrong. They just don't seal well.

The water, no matter where it came from, hard to say. But really a small amount of water isn't a big deal in the engine. Ya get condinsation in there, no way around that. There's water in the air and in the exhausts gasses that blow by, it builds up. It's kinda absorbed by the oil and leaves with oil changes, no big deal.

@ Meangreen460

Please read the rest of this thread at least a little. He's not using a motorcraft carb, and we have more then covered timing.

Jetting up for milage, WTH?

Please please PLEASE try a little editing before hitting "submit reply" That's one hell of a ramble with very poor punctuation making it very hard to read.

No thermostat, WTH?

Vacuum advance, PLEASE not this again.

No way in this world am I going to debate you on any on any of this when I can barely even understand what it is your trying to say and you haven't even bothered to read and understand what is going on here.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK back to Rob;

Do you have an intake gasket that fits the head ports real well?

Intend to port match the manifold?

Sure CCA-2121 is fine. They're not really going to specify "straight up" most will be and anything with an adjustment, as most are will be.

Like that 2121 it will have different notches used to advance or retard it. But the 0 will be clear and you just use that notch.
