4wd quit working

I have an 01 F250 7.3. The other day when I went to switch it into 4wd the light didn't come on and I had no 4wd. I have been putting the hubs in the lock position when needed for about a year now. I have been reading threads for 2 days. I think it might be in the TC but not sure, and don't know how to test it. The front drive shaft is spinning when driving. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi hogancon and welcome to FTE.

It sounds like the motor that shifts the transfer case is not working. I would start by checking the wiring harness and making sure the motor has power going to when it should.

Thanks for responding so quickly redford,
Would that be something likely to quit all of the sudden? Just to give you a little back ground on my electrical skills... I have a volt meter, but am not very good at knowing what to do with it. I fried my last one on its first use.lol It looks to me like there are two wiring harnesses going to the TC. Do I need to check both?

Here is a post I wrote a long time ago on diagnosing 4WD shift problems. The fuse numbers are 2002-2004 specific, so they won't apply, but everything else should.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post10605244

In place of the fuses I outlined, dig out your Owner's Manual and check any fuse that says anything about the General Equipement Module (might be called the General Electronics Module), 4WD, and anything that is a "feed" (Run/Start feed, etc.)

I may be able to dig up model year specific fuse information, if you hit a dead end.
