292 or 312

Hey guys, I'm going to buy an engine (block number ECK 6015 B) - it has the metal overflow tank mounted on top up front of the engine and 2 barrel carb...do you think this is a Galaxie or Fairlane engine? It has a FMX Cruise O Matic trans connected to it now. The best I can figure it is a 1956-57 292 ci. or it could be a 312. I am purchasing it from a grandson and he didn't know what all his Granddad had.....they did have a NICE Starliner in the garage and that why I think these are all car engines..will they drop into place in my truck with new motor mounts? Everything I've seen with the overflow tank has been a car motor #Any info is very helpful.#
****Will it drop into my 64 F100 with new motor mounts and bolt directly to the T98 4 speed transmission with no problems? I know I will need to use my truck bellhousing*****

It will not drop into place but it's probably a simple matter of bolt-ons.

Assuming that the truck is already equipped with a Y-Block which is set up correctly for the '64:
You'll need to swap the timing cover so you can use the truck's front mount. You'll need to swap the flywheel and clutch.
If the ECK engine is still as it came off of the assembly line, you'll want to swap the distributor and intake/carb from your old engine.
You'll probably need to swap the exhaust manifolds.

Charlie,
My truck is not set up for a Y block.. it still has the original I223 six cyl and that's why I what the Yblock. When I turn off my road you have to romp the throttle to keep logging trucks from making you into pulpwood.
That is why I mentioned changing the motor mounts to get this engine to fit. If I remove the FMX Ford Cruise O Matic transmission, bolt my flywheel, clutch, bellhousing, 4 sp. transmission etc, I would also need to remove all of the items you had listed and transfer them to my engine.....it may be best to start searching for a C2AE-C block (64 truck block) to reduce alot of hassles. If I buy this engine, it still needs to be 100% rebuilt. I think I would be better off to wait & search out the block I really need. Thanks!!!

Then, in your case, no V8 will just bolt in. You will also have to make a bracket for mounting the front of the engine to the frame. Original 292 equipped trucks come with that. Original 223 equipped trucks do not.
You will also need to get a Y Block 4spd bellhousing. The 223 bellhousing will not work.

An FMX? That trans was intro'd in 1968 for FE and possibly the SBF motors. Sure you have a y-block?

FMX

It is a FMX.....the Grandad had a varied collection of Ford stuff and he marked it. I took the time to roll it on it's side count the bolts and drew the pan in adiagram...it is a 14 bolt FMX small case tranny.
The grandson who was selling everything said his "paw" could do anything if it was a Ford. There was 2 very nice Ford Starliners in another garage and a Galaxie in another with parts everywhere

If you decide to to go with a 292/312, a front engine mount will be needed. Also a fairly easy fab of a front frame component for the mount to sit on. I have a '63-'64 front mount that bolts through the timing cover if if would be any help.
