I had my 95 F350 in the shop after going down 2 week's ago, the valve cover gasket's/wiring harness was melted for one thing, got that fixed. Well it also appears the Computer is bad, it has been wet at some point in time so im assuming that it possibly did the day it died and that is what finally killed it. Now im having issue's finding one, everyone says they have to have them sent back to be rebuilt. As many of these truck's are on the road i find it Hard to believe that no one make's them or no one has them that you have to have it sent off and rebuilt.
Anyone know where to get a computer at? tried all the local auto parts stores and all of them say they cant get them.
also while searching on here i seen in a old post that you could put a 97 model in the truck, is that true? will i have to do anything fancy to make it work?
guy working on it had issue's with it, every time you try to read the code's it tells you to turn the ignition on and it already is, pretty much no communication with it. Think he said it finally did but forgot what he said it said but it was something to do with computer, also we found that the fuse for it had foil in it, plus it has been wet and is rusted/corroded
any certain code i need to look for in the 97 truck's?? will it have to be re flashed or will i be able to plug and play?
What kind of scanner was he using? Which fuse had the foil on it? Was it the number 22 under the hood? How is the fuse for the 12v power outlet in the cab?
Im not positive about any of it, but i know he is a diesel mechanic and has been for many year's.
Here is the deal on what might be happening. Fuse #22 (under the hood) provides power to the computer and the fuel bowl heater. If the fuel bowl heater shorts out, and they do, it kills the fuse and the result is no power to the PCM. One way to check is you won't the WTS light. If that is the case then unplug the fuel bowl heater, replace the fuse and try to start.
Not saying you don't need another PCM now or in the future but this may get you going, or not ...
