Jacking up my 460 Engine

I need to jack my 460 to one side to make enough clearance to take the header out of the passenger side. I'm going to take the bolts loose from both motor mounts. Where should I use the jack on the engine? Is the oil pan okay, or is it too weak? I just need to tilt it over to the side some, but it's still 700 pounds...

While it's jacked up, I need to be able to remove the passenger side header and replace the starter. The starter is the whole reason I'm in there, but it won't come out without the header all the way off.

Do I need to do anything with the transmission to be able to tilt it over/up some? I don't think the engine will need to move more than 2 inches to give the header enough clearance to come out.

I also have another thread with more background: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...r-issue-2.html

I would loosen the mounting bolts at the back of the transmission first. The oil pan might not handle the weight, but if you can fit the jack in front of the motor you could push up on the front lip surface of the oilpan, or possibly the harmonic dampner. Use a block to disperse the weight and soften the load.

There is not much clearance to lift the engine and tranny with my E4OD, and I think the C6 has the same housing. It might be just enough however.

What kind of headers do you have?

I'm sure I paid more for my torque tubes, but I can take them off and put them back on from the underside in half an hour if I wanted to, without touching anything else.

I have Hedman long tube headers. I believe they're the ones with the thick flange. They will almost come out through the bottom, but they don't quite clear...

I think I have enough clearance to lift the engine/trans as much as I need to.
