engine swap

I have a 2001 f 150 4X4 crew cab with a 5.4 triton in it. I was wondering ?#1 if any 5.4 triton engine from 2004- 2012 would work for replacing the engine. ?#2 would it be as simple as plug and play or would it need more done to it. I would really be thankful for any input on my questions.
thank you in advance
Eric

No engine beyond 03.
There were many changes in engine design from 04 on with cam phasing control, 3 valve etc. that requires different harness and computer control.
Then you get into the dash and PATS compatability problems plus single pipe fuel system etc.
From your point and being respectfull, it would likly be a huge expense if you could ever get it too workout without issues.
Do some research to verify some of the differences then decide if you feel you could do it.
It sure would never be plug and play.
Good luck.

Thank you for the input, I had an idea it wouldn't work, but I had to ask.
