46 Ford Truck

Hello everyone! I'm new to the site and have a 46 1.5 ton (I think) that is currently being restored. The truck was torn apart about 15 years ago and was shuffled between various storage locations until time and $$$ was available for a resto. Although time and $$$ are still a little short, I decided the truck needs to be completed. I know I have all the big pieces and I hope most of the little ones. The truck is just a cab and chassis, but I hope to find a dump body/hoist to mount on it once the resto is complete. I've been lurking around the forum and see that there is a wealth of knowledge here. I'm hoping to have the at least the cab/chassis complete by this summer.

Now for my first question. Is there a manual that shows how the cab is mounted to the frame? I have some of the original bolts and springs (new wooden blocks on the way) but don't know/remember how they were installed.

Thanks,
Joe

Thanks Complit. I looked at your threads and see how you positioned the blocks on your cab. Did you use the springs when you remounted the cab to the frame? I ordered a new set of blocks from Wescottsauto which should be here soon. Hope to set my cab next week.
Nice job on your 47! It looks great. I am going with the traditional Ford green w/yellow trim.

Yes, I used the springs, except on the front mounts. I like your color choice.

Finally have some paint on my 46. Now waiting on various trim pieces to be painted. Hope I can remember how all this stuff goes back together.

Make sure the blocks work on your big truck. If I'm not mistaken pick up mounts and big truck mounts are different.

Funny you should mention that. I was looking inside the cab and noticed the steering column bracket was over an inch from the bottom of the dash. Then I noticed the pedals were resting on the bottom of that cutout in the cab floor. Bottom line is I think the cab is sitting too high with those mounts. Vaguely recall reading on here somewhere that the mounts were different from the 1/2 ton. I was thinking of taking the mounts out and shaving them down some. Two steps forward then one step back.

Thanks guys. The plan is to have at least the cab and chassis on the road by summer. The dump body and hoist installation may have to wait awhile.

There's always something that has to wait a while... Put something heavy like a big oak log chained onto the chassis. I have broken windows from the cab/chassis bouncing.

Probably a good idea to put something heavy back there. If you could find me a Ford script stake body to mount back there that would do the trick

Well my truck is once again riding on 6 wheels/tires (kudos to christurney77). I put 8.25x20's on the back and 7.50x20's on the front. I really wish I could have used U.S. made tires but just couldn't find them in the tread pattern I wanted. Old Henry is probably spinning in his grave but ya gotta go with what you can find.
