Which is better 5.0 or 3.5 Ecoboost
Hi everybody I am new to this site and I am glad to be a part of it. My situation is that I cannot decide between the 5.0 or the Ecoboost. I would get either the F150 w/ 5.0, 4x4, 3.73 gears, Supercrew or the F150 w/ Ecoboost, 4x4, 3.55 gears, Supercrew. "My only concern" is the negative things i have heard gone wrong with the Eco.
Most of the time it will be my daily driver 50/50 city & highway driving.
I would go hunting with this truck along with using the truck to haul either a 5500lb. boat, 3 ATVs, or a 7000lb. travel trailer about 1 or 2 times a month depending on what i want to do that weekend.
Based on the info I have provided what would be the best F150 to get for the things i mentioned? Thx ahead for the input.

I recently traded our 11 F150 FX4, 5.0, 3.73 for a 13 F150 FX4 Eco boost 3.73 and the max tow package. I really liked the 5.0 and can't say anything bad about that engine at all and it pulled my trailers just fine. The Eco pulls the trailers much better though. Gets up to speed faster, and holds speed better with less downshifting. My trailers are between 6 & 8000lbs. Both of the engines get pretty much the same mileage while pulling and empty. As far as reliability I wouldn't worry about the Eco, people don't talk about the good things and a few bad stories spread like wildfire in here. I don't know if that helped you at all but both engines are a great choice.

I have an F-150 Eco Boost engine with max tow package and I believe I have the 3.73 gear. As long as you are not pulling really heavy weight the 5.0 should do fine. I have heard people hauling heavier weight with it and it struggles to keep up. I am towing a 10,000 lb travel trailer with no problems. It is towing great. How ever once towing it goes down to 7 mpg.

I don't want to be negative, but that is my question also. 150,000 miles where will things be with these turbos. Not just the Eco, but I don't want any gas vehicle with a turbo. I guess I just remember the nightmares of the turbos in the 80s when I worked for a Ford Dealership. I know things have improved greatly over the years. But I guess I should live in Missouri "The Show Me" State.

How ever once towing it goes down to 7 mpg.
I was hoping to find an engine that would tow my 8000# boat decently and not kill my wallet with low MPG. This looks like neither the 5.0 or the ECO is the answer. Bigger v8 or diesel but the diesel fuel price is a killer.

Proper shut down isn't even needed anymore with these turbos because they are also liquid cooled as well as oil cooled just for that reason!

Mytravel trialer is between 7500-8000lbs when loaded and i average between 10-10.6mpg while towing.

Back in December, I traded my '11 XLT Extended cab Ecoboost for a '12 XLT 4x4 Supercab 5.0.
I think one advantage for the 5.0 is that it doesn't have direct injection. Been offline for a long time so I don't know how the Ecoboost will or is fairing with the direct fuel injection.
The reasons I traded my Ecoboost in was because Ford Credit offered me a deal I could not turn down, it's a Super Cab which means my son doesn't have to sit sideways on the rear seat and a 4x4 is on my "bucket list". Plus like posted above, it sure sounds good under acceleration!
With just 5 less hp than the Ecoboost and for sure, less torque, the 5.0 will still haul buns when you "get on it".
Ecoboost for sure got better gas mileage than this 5.0 does but the former had a 3:15 rear gear as the 5.0 is a 3:77.
