Does anyone have an extra transmission castle nut like this?

While rebuilding my '51 transmission last month, I boogered up the threads on the output shaft castle nut. Yeah, I was pounding on it with a BFH like it had insulted my grandma. Lesson learned.

I tried to find another one locally at K.L Jack, Grainger, Fastenal, etc. Nobody has one either this thin or with these fine threads. I figured somebody here might have an extra kicking around.
1 -1/2" wide, thread diameter 1", and it's 3/8" thick. (see pictures)
If it matters this is for an output shaft on an F2 that has the parking brake drum attached. In case it is different than other castle nuts on our transmissions.

Any idea who might have one new or used?

Thanks for any replies,
Tom

Did a search on Van Pelt's site and the diagram shows it as PN 351165-S but I did not see that one was available for sale. Maybe try Chuck's trucks? Chucks Trucks LLC., Chuck's Trucks, Chucks Trucks

That's an oddball; real fine thread for the size.

I was fortunate enough to have an aging friend give me his 3/4" drive socket set(s) a while ago. Sure came in handy last Saturday. Anyway, it looks just like the one on my T98. So, I would try either Green Sales, Chuck's, or maybe even Novak's. Novak does Jeeps but he has a lot of T98 parts. Here: http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/t98.htm

Number Dummy, am I right (this time)?

Edit - yep, I just checked and the T98 uses 351165-S.

If the transmission isn't bolted in you may need to lock it by engaging two gears at once. Them things are on there right tight!

isn't 1"by 20 just a fine thread castle nut ?? a fastener supply shop should have them ..and the better way to remove the nut is to hold the yoke with a pipe wrench ,better control ,and no damage to the gears ...you can break a tooth locking gears together ..I know ..

The conundrum: the yoke must be removed to get to the nut. I put my T98 in reverse and it wanted to turn the engine over - with spark plugs installed. Granted, the 239 Y-block only has about 7.2/1 compression. I wound up striking an 18" 3/4" drive breaker with a wheel mallet (5 Lb sledge with a short handle). The momentum worked to my advantage. I do agree about the gears shattering. Once the engine and clutch are divorced from the transmission there is just no easy way. I assume that the "proper tool for the job" would have locked a single gear anyway. A big old impact driver is your friend here. If I did my homework right, this baby has a prescribed torque of about 150 ft/Lbs. somebody please correct me if I'm out of line on that number. I can take it!

How many would'ja like?
You won't find the part number without the complete suffix. Parts catalog pics may not show Standard (hardware) part number suffixes. The text section is required to get the complete part number.

Post 3: Ross highlighted the part number in the text in yellow, but omitted the 8 which denotes the type of finish it has.

351165-S8 .. Hexagon Slotted Castle Nut ~ 1" -20 / Obsolete

NORTZ & VIRKLER FORD in Lowville NY has 4 = 315-376-6594 (OP: closest source to Maine).

MANDERBACH FORD in Temple PA has 4 = 610-929-3683.

MORLAN-SHELL FORD in West Plains MO has 10 = 417-256-3193.

FRIESEN FORD in Aurora NE has 11 = 402-694-3111.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 42 = 800-543-4959.

Besides these 71 .. there's another 402 available NOS

Havi, Ross, Horvath, Ken, Big Job & Bill.....I really want to thank you for giving me all the information to replace this castle nut. And for offering to get me one or make one for me. It made my head spin to see all the positive replies with helpful information.

I just signed up to be a supporting FTE member as a result. Hopefully that will go through in the next day or two.
Since the nuts are available new, I'll go that route instead of taking one that you might need later or have you make one.
Again, I really appreciate it! One step closer to getting this 'ol truck on the road.

How bad did you bugger it up? (I hate when I do that kind of thing)
Its kind of a long shot due to the size and fine threads but maybe a thread chaser. Or maybe try a local machine shop to see if they have a tap that size.

Maybe a tractor supply house
How about McMaster-Carr?

I beat on it like it insulted my grandma. No not, really, but enough to roll out three turns of thread. I tried to chase it but don't trust it anymore and it needs to be on tight to keep the drum on.

Gonna check out the parts places that Bill suggested that have them new, and see who can mail one to me at a decent price.

For stuff like this that isn't pricey and shipping should be cheap, I always try Antique Auto Suplly in TX. They only charge ACTUAL shipping via USPS. No penalty for a small order.
