Little off topic, but anyone know the ratings for a Ford installed receiver? I have one, can see the Ford logo on the sticker, but the section with the ratings on it wore off.

If it's got a 2" receiver, you CAN use weight distributing hitch!!

The weight distributing hitch helps get the tongue weight down to a safe rating. So it can be used on any hitch system.

Nope not screwing with you. While 4 bolt would probably hold the weight, there is just not enough surface area to spread out the load on the truck frame

More info

You know, if you can find a five-digit part number on that hitch, you can go to Draw-tite's website and look at the original installation instructions. That will show you what kind of hardware you need.

Most likely it's a p.n. 40050 multi-fit.

40050 instructions in pdf form

Hope this helps.

It could be a dealer-installed option.

I don't think anyone was suggesting there was a 4-bolt hitch. It was a question of 6-bolt vs. 8-bolt, and in most cases I think the "8-bolt" isn't really that - it's a 6-bolt with 2 clearance holes for the rivet!

Ill grab a picture of it. It has the Ford logo on the receiver sticker. Maybe a dealer thing.

My 90 F350 IDI had a factory installed hitch, ford logo and all.

To the OP, if you go to my build thread below i installed it on my f150, had to use a big c-clamp to move it over, has 6 holes that i used Grade 8s on AND welded it for extra comfort

No it didn't. Ford NEVER offered a FACTORY hitch till the 97 F150 and 99 superdutys.

Now what a DEALER put on is a different story
