Ok, I had a 97 5.4, currently own a SuperDuty v10, but its more truck than we need for our family (yes, the 9-10 mpg empty is tough to swallow, pulling it was a constant 7.5 mpg). We are probably going to be going to an 03 5.4 Super Crew, Which I have some questions about.

We pull a 6500 lb travel trailer to local camp grounds so the 5.4 is a must.

The old 97 did a find job we just ran out of room with our growing boys.

Ok, specific questions. The 97 has a E4OD (Yes it really did), what kind of transmission will the 03 have? are they better, worse, about the same as the E4OD?

The 5.4... I think mine was a 2 valve with 235 hp and 330 ish lb ft of torque.

Is there any improvement in power with the 03 models?

Oh, we are probably going to go with the 2wd to get the most tow rating (8000 lbs) . Also XLT trim.

(I personally prefer the 97-03 body style compared to the 04-08)

the 03 has 260 hp 350 tq, I think. Dont know about the Tranny, Mine pulled my 25' TT ok with 35's and stock gearing but my TT was only 5,000-5,500 Lbs loaded. Check the Gearing for the 2 wd models, i am not sure if they are 3.55 gearing or not. If the 97 did it, I would feel sure the 03 Will a little better, may not be better enuff to tell though. Maybe some one else wll chime in. My 02 model does alot better than my 97 i had did, but the 97 was a 4.6 where as my 02 is a 5.4
