CL find - 1 of 9 ever made!

1939 GM Futurliner, Very Rare!

Won't fit in my garage or I'd be on the plane!

One of the others...

Wow! I've never seen one. Very cool! And.....uh......uhm........I'm sure that's a bargain for what it is, but they still want $425,000 !! I think I'll personally pass on the plane ticket.

The ultimate art deco vehicle....I love those things. Can't imagine why he has it on craigslist.......seems there would be better ways to sell something for that price.

Very interesting rig. Looks a lot like a luxury locomotive engine to me. And it sure looks a lot newer than 1939. I guess that's the point of a futuristic design though.

Bring cash? I know. That's cynical.

The Futurliners and their story is pretty interesting.
Here's a link documenting the restoration of one of the beasts;

I do remember the one selling at B-J for millions. One of the most expensive vehicles ever sold by them at the time. So if he's selling this one at one tenth of the price they could sell for, that speaks volumes about the condition/level of restoration of this one, imho. Still, a very cool piece of gearhead history.

If I could afford to buy it, I could afford to build a garage to store it in! I suspect it's a scam, being on CL and all.

There was at the Iola, WI car show a few years back, I think it was the one the eventually sold on BJ, not sure. It was an awesome machine and you could sit in the driver's seat. It was hot and the line was long so I didn't go up.

The story I read on them is there are a few rotting and a few made into RVs. The most scary thing the driver said was going under overpasses. The driver sits 10+ feet off the ground the big windshield really make for a hot drive, I don't think they had air conditioning.

Very cool, but the seller says not to email, but he wants you to leave a contact number without giving his number. Strange

That thing is neat but not $425,000 neat. I would be more interested at $405,000.

I've seen three of them, or a restored one more than once. One was sitting unrestored behind the museum in Auburn, IN, many years ago. Then I saw the one at Iola like Bob, then there was one at the ATHS National the year before last in South Bend. Big impressive rigs. Stu

I'm just not as interested in GM vehicles and would only go to $399,999. You high rollers can have at it.

Ross, you would have plenty of room after you sold your house and all your vehicles, and everything else you own. You would just have to live in it. Plenty of places to park at night, and I am sure it gets excellent mileage. Parts should be easy too since there are two of them for the other 7. I am sure you would have done it if it had been made by Henry...
